kulashaker
Hi All, I am a newbie, please to meet you all. I have a problem with my VW Lupo and was hoping that someone can give me an insight of whats happening. After 1yr I purchased my new 1999 14 litre Lupo it started to stall when i hit the clutch and break (for example stopping at traffice light or at a round-a-bout). I took it the dealership several time and they tried fixing it with their ECU laptop systems. But it was no use. After getting fed-up of this they told me that I need to change the Throttle Valve Body ($280), I told them to go ahead just aslong the problem is solved. It worked brilliantly at first but after 6 months running it started to do it again, exactly the same symptom. Again, i took it there, ECU settings...etc....to NO AVAIL!!! Now its getting even worse, I sometimes experience at high revs the engine starts choking, for example I am on 3rd gear pushing it to 3000rpm to 4000rpm it starts choking. Has anybody ever experienced this problem before, if yes, i'd appreciate your comments. Thanks in advance. regards, kula
Drillslinger
First off Dude, WELCOME!! My sister had the same problem with her 1.4 Polo, what I did was ran a fuel system cleaner through with a tank of gas, and used some Carb cleaner on the throttle body. This hasn't completely solved the problem, but it has helped quite a bit What grade of fuel do you use normally? I've known folks have problems with bad fuel (water in the gas) which caused the same kind of problem Hope it helps
danksy
Welcome buddy! Just to build on what has already been said, try changing the fuel filter, and check the fuel lines are fully bled if its a diesel. Next up it could be a dodgy fuel pump, or even a clogged or maybe faulty injector. I would try an additive as Drill suggests, and if this doesn't sort it try replacing the fuel pump with a new one! Have you tried borrowing a VAG-COM to check for error codes? It could be something more serious like the ECU fuelling incorrectly due to a dodgy MAF meter! Good luck mate! danksy
[ QUOTE ] Dude, does the 1.4 use a MAF?? [/ QUOTE ] It'll be either a MAFF or maybe a hotfoil system (unlikely). The 1.4 will be fuel injected so will need some way of measuring the air going into the engine and thus to control fuelling and ignition!
Drillslinger
OK, just wondering as I don't remember seeing anything which resembled a MAF when I cleaned the throttle body
danksy
I might stand corrected then Check the pipe from the airbox into the airintake on the engine block, there's probably one there somewhere. They are normally in line with the air intake after the airbox, you sould be able to spot it as it will have a wire going to it! Good luck!
