peterb
Foot rest for the right foot? That'd be novel. Are you sure it's not a full length, bottom-hinged accelerator pedal?
Paul
I did think that, then though "nah cant be looks too close to the consol/tunnel" Maybe it is. I hope they dont go for that full pedal, hinged at the bottom stylee.

Drillslinger
[ QUOTE ] I wonder if its of any significance that the 3rd car in that convoy (an S/RS of some description) is US spec? </praying> [/ QUOTE ] Well, I'm PRAYING that the S3 comes to the States EVEN IF this is the "Final" (Or close enough to) product. Some points: Leather / Alcantara Seats The lower front and lower rear valance MUST be color coded Side mirrors MUST be Aluminum if it's to be an "S" Whether or not they make it 3-Door only or bring it along in Sportback they NEED to bring it to the States so that I can (Hopefully) put myself back in debt for one Oh yeah, and at least the lower grills allow air flow (UNLIKE the ones they put on the GTI/R32 )

sitas3
[ QUOTE ] It looks shite, and I am not saying this from the usual 'lodders in Audi bashing shocker'. I had 2 S3's and loved them both, OK, they were pretty dull to drive, but the pride of ownership was immense, I still stop to look when I see one go past now and still think they look great. This new one just looks dull as dishwater. Long live the old S3 [/ QUOTE ] here here.. doesn't do it for me either. Maybe i'm subconsciously catching BMW disease! [/ QUOTE ] well there's a trend here Drill isn't there? Old B5 RS4 looked the best IMHO - new RS4 doesn't do it for me. Visually it doesn't grab you like the old one. Same for the new S3. First time I took an S3 for a test drive I was really impressed - it looked better than the normal A3 etc etc. The 8L will be a hard act to follow in most respects apart from handling. Drillslinger
Dude, even the B6 S4 looked better than the B7 The "Corporate Grill" doesn't really float my boat, but I take it all in stride. I'd go crazy if I tried to find another car that I would love as much as my TQ. (Which is why I bought a Mini ) That said, looking at the 8P with as little 8L bias as possible, it's not bad... it's just not "GREAT" either

chiller
If tyhats all they are offering I'd rather get myself a mint 53 plate original S3,far better looking, the new one looks so boring.
AZURES3
They must do better apart from the BHP. Interior very average, where are the Recaro's Wing Mirrors must be Chrome, I guess they are for disguise. Wheeel, muust be the Avus II's minimmum, once again I guess they are for disguise. Feel a little disapointed. AZ
J_C
I think it's important to remember that these spy shots are only of a test mule, and nine times out of ten such cars often do look dull/ordinary/plain. When the real thing finally emerges I'm sure it'll live up to expectations. Take the recent S6 as an example: test cars = , production car =

CarMad
MMMmm A bit plain for an S.. but it might get some lighter wider arches with any luck. It might be just testing some of the interior and the new front spoiler. Power at 272 and a lighter car looks promising. And will people please get it right .... it will be 40/60 split if they go for the new Quattro system. 60% will go to the rear wheels not the front. Now please all get it right. N3WOB
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Well said John. [/ QUOTE ] I hope he's right.... Wasn't so long ago we saw the extremely underwhelming spy shots of the new R32 & that didn't change much at all for the launch model.

[/ QUOTE ] Are you sure about that? The 40/60 split applies to the Torsen system which is only used in cars with longitudinally mounted engine. Transverse engine quattro systems use Haldex, which is FWD, only bringing the rear wheel drive into play when the fronts start to slip (so a 100/0 split!). Drillslinger
I think what everyone is talking about is the Gen II Haldex which has the "Pre-Load" function where it will transfer more power to the wheels than previous (Audi) setups and it does so quicker. S8 and that will be fitted to the new A4 etc. are all 40/60. They are thus more RWD cars than the current FWD set up. This means that they won't be as understeery as they are now and what I would think people actually mean when they say the split. Why the hell would you want a system that provides more power to the front wheels in a performance car.. simple you wouldn't. Not saying its actually going to appear on the S3.. but 40/60 is the wrong way to describe it. The system mentioned in the new TT is.... 40/60. sitas3
I do. It will be interesting to see if they do this on the S3 from launch and that it performs better than the Haldex performance part. The Haldex performance part IIRC only really reacts quicker and sends more power to the rear than current. If Audi programmed the controller to be permanent 40/60, then variable when slipping, then that's a different game.
