Yeah, just been talking about her in a chatroom! She's attractive, can drive better than any of us could ever hope for (that's her as designated driver smile.gif) and can get cheap accommodation and tickets for the 'ring! The perfect woman imho wink.gif

I was telling Robin the other week about a girl I used to err.. know. She was very fit (TV presenter), very intelligent, and when I asked her what she thought to her new Corrado VR6, she said "The pedal placement makes it tricky to heel and toe". 169144-ok.gif

Absolutely Red - there's a lot more to be gained by investment in the driver than the car.

It also has the advantage that it's an investment for life... not the life of the car.

Hi Si....I haven't forgotten Don Palmer but friend Ray West has offered to spend a whole day with just me and my car on any roads I want. I have a huge amount of respect for his driving abilities, get on very well with him, and he knows what makes me tick, so I expect he'll be my first 'port of call'. He's done most of the work on my car so it should now include the driver! I'm the one that needs tuning.

Ray West will be very good but do make sure you check out Don’s courses. Like I said in one of my previous posts, Don is a driving coach, not an instructor.

Therefore he doesn’t tell you “what” to do but asks you questions and gets you to think about what you’re doing and more importantly what the car is doing. Don works on the basis of getting you to understand the car and tyres (slip angles, pitch and roll, etc). When you start to understand what is happening, you adopt your driving to get the most out of it.

Don does of course show you some techniques, but I can honestly say that his course was the only one I’ve attended where I came away not only having thoroughly enjoyed myself, but also learnt a hell of a lot!

Even today, when in the car, I’m going over Don’s questions, listening to the car, thinking about what it’s doing. I find myself now planning where I want to go, driving with a soft grip so that I can fully tune into the wheels and “feel” the grip, feeling where the tyres are getting close to the edge, noticing the pitch and yaw of my car and reducing it by taking away unnecessary braking.

I just feel so much more relaxed driving now but so much more tuned in! Oh and make sure you get a decent pair of driving shoes also! I’ve just invested in my second pair of Sparco boots and they are great for effective footwork and pedal feel!

…sorry I’ve kinda gone off thread, but I’m passionate about this laugh.gif

....If we all stuck rigidly to topic we wouldn't learn anything like as much imo. Being passionate about performance cars is a big part of what Tyresmoke is all about 169144-ok.gif

What you describe is being 'at one' with the machine such that it feels like an extension of yourself (cue for rude comments by some, no doubt).

I hope those Sparco booties aren't silver or gold and with wings!! grin.gif
