Someone needs to get real here! You don't need 19s unless you plan to upgrade the brakes. Both alloys look good imo but the GTI's specially designed BBS Monza is a very important part of the GTI icon. Surely you can make your own mind up regardless of what I or anyone else thinks!!??

Well, yes I can, actually Red !

I`m a grown man you know, and I can make my own decisions grin.gif, but surely that`s why any of us come onto these forums; ie: to give, and receive opinions on what we think in relation to our cars, and other stuff.

Yeah, I`m aware that I don`t NEED the 19`s (or the 18`s for that matter), it`s just that I`m considering both, purely for cosmetic reasons.

Don`t take it so seriously mate, I know I don`t ! 169144-ok.gif

Fair enough! I was feeling a bit spikey due to another thread in another TSN forum....It happens and is inevitable....Nothing personal.

I respect that you are honest enough to say that it's for cosmetic reasons. In my opinion, the standard 18s are best but the other BBS is one of the very best alternatives because it's well established and usually only seen on pedigree cars. I expect that the ride will feel different on the 19s and you'll want that suspension sooner rather than later! I'm sure you'll let us know which you finally decide on. Enjoy either way 169144-ok.gif

....At the risk of taking your post too seriously, petsy, I'm always amazed at generally how cool most Indian people are under any kind of fire. I've been in a couple of situations where an Indian friend has quietly said to me "Leave it, Robin, he's not worth it and he's the one with the problem". Anyway, I've gone way off topic.

Red, my posting was just a bit of humour and nothing untoward was intended. 169144-ok.gif

....Don't worry - I know it was in good humour. It's only that I know how a lot of Indian people feel about how they are stereotyped and I take every opportunity to correct such ideas....Not specifically yourself but for anyone else reading who is ignorant of such things. It's easy to forget that we are all in a public forum.

Finally decided to go for the 18`s, as I think they will suit the GTI better, seeing as they`ve been made specifically for it anyway (as some have wisely advised).

I was tempted by the BBS alloys, but, in the end, they do now look a bit "Mk 4" (which is no disrespect to the Mk 4 lads, of course).

If all goes well, I should be collecting them on Thursday, so I`ll let you know.

Many, many thanks to ALL those who took the time to reply, as there have been some interesting comments and points of view. Cheers.............. 169144-ok.gif

Yeah, thanks for that mate !

Funny thing is, I`m just logged onto "another" forum, and one of the lads on there has colour-coded his Mk V Tdi, and added BBS`s to it (which look like 19`s).

Don`t get me wrong, the car looks VERY nice, and he`s done it tastefully, but, and it`s a big but, it occurred to me there and then that you could put the BBS`s on ANY VW, and, although they will look good, they just won`t be original.

Conversely, I don`t think anyone is going to put the Mk V GTI alloys on anything but a Mk V GTI, as it`s just a bit too "wannabe".

I hope that doesn`t sound too snobby, because I`m not particularly loaded, or anything, but, as I said, the GTI alloys (whether they be the 17`s, or 18`s), are totally individual to that car.

However, it did take me a little while to see this, as you`re all aware..................... blush.gifbuttcheeks.gif

Encee> that pic was taken at the 'ring and there must have been a GTI day on! There were loads of them! Now, my mate who isn't overly keen on Golfs, looked over the GTIs loved the Monzas. He couldn't get enough of them! Infact the other GTI in the shot had Monzas on and looked (imho) the definition of sexy smile.gif

We all agreed that the Monzas make the GTI and I know what you mean, I don't think you're being snobby at all! IMHO the Monzas are as important to the GTI as the GTI badge on the front/back wink.gif

Although that GTI in the picture was a BEAST! It absolutely flew round the track, of course the driver may have had "something" to do with it, but that car upset a few 911's wink.gif

Very individual to the GTI but be aware that the Polo "GTI" will also have Monzas, though it shouldn't bother you.

[/ QUOTE ]

It will? Damnit, I like the Polo, but it already looks too much like the Golf imho! Gah, the GTI doesn't even have a GOLF badge on the back, I swear, if one person says "corr mate, I luv ya Polo GTI" there'll be bloodshed wink.gif

Yes, I saw a pic of this recently Red, in one of the mags.

TBH, I really don`t understand VW`s rationale behind this, as I think it`ll start to confuse the issue of which is which, far too much on the road, especially at a distance !

Why they haven`t styled the Polo more individually is beyond me ! We really don`t want them making the "Vauxhall mistake" of badging everything quickish as a "VXR".

Not quite the same, I know, but you get my drift........... confused.gif

Having had the privilege of a ride in Mose's V8 Monaro VXR at the weekend I now have quite different "VXR" associations....More of Pontiac GTO and less of Vauxhall.

But I agree, it's very disappointing that VW have styled the Polo and Golf GTIs so similarly. Still, who cares, we know we've got the proper one and who cares what anyone else thinks - They're not behind the wheel enjoying it.
