crasher
Called this morning. Michelin refered me to my dealer for checkup. Dealer says that my car doesnt have 20" - i say they are as they are non-dealer fitted. Wheels are Audi OEM with stock Michelin tyres. Will this make any difference? PSU
Crasher, if your tyres have this description on the sidewall 255/35 ZR 20 97Y [Extra Load] and have a tread pattern consisting of two very distinct grooves running around the the full centre circumference of the tyre with a V pattern tread looking similar to this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8035411948#ebayphotohosting then these are the tyres that are being replaced. Its not important what vehicle or wheels they are on as they are recalling every tyre shipped whether they were bought second hand or retro fitted. MORE INFO HERE>>> http://www.manchesteronline.co.uk/cars/news/s/192/192933_michelin_tyre_alert.html I would suggest doing what I did and visit a trusted tyre fitter and taking with you a printout of the michellin recall notice and asking the tyrefitter if they are the correct ones. Once they have confirmed it call the Michellin helpline again and give them the name and number of the Tyrefitter and they will call them and then ship direct. Hope this helps. Botang
Crasher I was in the same position as you, the chap at Michelin arranged things for me, the dealer spoke directly to them and all was sorted. Top Marks to Michelin, and Northampton Audi too. At first Northampton Audi said there was no recall regarding tyres, then said my car wouldnt be affected, luckily the service lady I was dealing with made the call to Michelin and everything was sorted. crasher
Okay I can confirm that my tyres are 255/35/ZR20 97Y Extra Load, and have the same tread patterns as featured in the pic posted by Raincoat (cheers). Called in at the dealers this afternoon. They say that my tyres are a different batch / manufacture date to the ones on the recal. Are they giving me the run-around, of is this a straight answer and i can forget about it???
Botang
Here is a link for an American site that discusses the recall in detail Michelin Recall [ QUOTE ] Make sure your tire is of the make and model: Michelin® Pilot® Sport 255/35ZR20 97Y Extra Load Then, look for a DOT code on the sidewall that begins with FHPNEFMX and ends with 00, 01, 02, 03 or 05 as the final two digits. [/ QUOTE ] As far as I was aware it affected all the Pilot Sport 255/35 ZR 20 97Y Extra Load tyres. If there is any doubt ask call the 0800 number again for advice this is a serious issue its worth double checking.
PSU
I would do as Botang suggested. There was no questions asked with any serial numbers. It was explained ALL these types would be replaced and the replacements were sent within 1 week to my local tyre fitter.

crasher
DOT numbers match the recall notice. Time to call a tyre specialist as cant be arsed to argue the toss with Listers anymore

crasher
Lol! Anyroad, called Michelin again. THis time they were very helpfull. They agreed that my dealer were giving me the run-around and suggested just going to my local quickfit. They're going to call them and arrange delivery of the tyres shortly. Splendid stuff
crasher
Runaround time again. Went to Kwik-fit with the recall notice. They called Michelin to confirm (which they did) however Michelin said i'd need to go back to my Audi dealer!! Feel like a yo-yo
PSU
Your certainly getting the runaround. Just had all mine replaced this morning at the local tyre fitters as I refused to have them done by Parklands. There is a huge difference in road noise - they are a lot quieter. crasher
And so we come to a conclusion... I put together an elegantly composed fax last night, detailing the full sequence of events and details of my conversations with Michelin. Faxed this off to my dealer this morning (7am) and received a most apologetic call from them at 9am. 5 tyres on their way, will be fitted next week. I'd like to thank all who have contributed info on this matter - it took some doing but finally i managed to get through. Chuffed to bits that i dont have to fork out for new tyres (yet). Botang
Its just a shame that they made such a crucial mistake, you would think on a matter as important as a safety recall the dealer would double and tripple check before turning you away
