Brigitte
[ QUOTE ] ooooh what a friendly and endeering first post on TSN, I am sure you will "enjoy" the banter here after such an introduction If you dont like it here then please close the door behind you!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Thanks for the welcome. I was trying to be funny, but now that I've taken a second look, I do sound like a ****er. Which I'm not. Er, well not ALWAYS... I'm sorry, TSN. If I post my picture, will you take me back into your loving arms? Great thread, great site.

bazza_g
[ QUOTE ] TSN is unlike any other internet site I've ever visited - (it costs me loads more in changing cars anyway) [/ QUOTE ] and I don't think you're done changing cars yet
RedRobin
McC, I think that being as young as you are has a huge influence on how people judge your behaviour. How many of us can put our hands on our hearts and say that we didn't do something equivalent in our teens. I'm not condoning lying at all - I detest dishonesty - but let's look at this positively: - No real harm has been done. - Much entertainment has been provided. - TSN's own protective systems have been tested. - The TSN community has strengthened its bonds and shown its compassion. - Last but not least, young McC has the opportunity to learn a heck of a lot, not just about cars, but about the better side of human nature and the stupidity of being a liar. Some TSNers may not agree with me but I am merely contributing my opinion.

bazza_g
[ QUOTE ] I pity him and hope he recovers from whatever prompted him to do this, but ask yourself about the timescale. Two full months. Thousands of posts. We're talking about the complete creation of an online persona. He's been living a life that never existed. Milo
[ QUOTE ] TSN's own protective systems have been tested [/ QUOTE ] Why should people have spend to hours and I mean hours trawling through lies and fantasies trying to expose someone who a lot suspected of being full of but we were struggling to prove it? I'm not just talking about normal TSN users but the mods as well. It takes the trust away. A lot of people have got better things to do with their time then outing some teenager with problems who was hell bent on filling this forum with crap. But he's apologised so it's OK All in my opinion etc

patently
In the Sgt Pag thread, Mollox said: [ QUOTE ] There are so many things that we take for granted on TSN, so many individual elements that make this site quite what it is. The majority of those reasons are you, the users, but Trust is also a central core value to ‘The Joy’ and Tyresmoke. [/ QUOTE ] To my mind, that sums it all up. Mc5 had tried to mislead us on a huge scale for a considerable time. That shows a willingness to lie that must put the veracity of all future posts in question. I can feel sympathetic; if he amuses himself by trying (and failing) to kid people that he has achieved something in this life rather than by actually going out and achieving something, then his life must be shallow and sad. I'm sorry to hear that about anyone. That sympathy will not make me start trusting what he says, though. Mc5 - go and get laid. It'll be worth it, and much more fun than trolling. Oh - and change that wallpaper. Green?!!

If Mods feel that their time is being wasted, then they need to understand that such issues are part of their freely made decision to accept being a Moderator - The expression goes: "If you can't stand the heat, then don't go in the kitchen." So, just what "better things to do" with your time do you have? Lounge of Joy? Aren't you supposed to be working right now? I agree with you about Trust. Trust is extremely important in all relationships, including with animals.

[/ QUOTE ] ....That's the whole point about Trust - Once it's broken it can be impossible to restore. But we are human and need to have compassion according to circumstances. These particular circumstances appear to be about a teenager who lied and broke trust but, ask yourself, what actual harm has come to any individual as a result. Lessons can be learnt by everybody as a result of all this. I'm not even Christian but I say to you: Who is so innocent in their own life that they can cast that stone? There are far worse cases of deception than that done by mccombie. Perhaps the worst aspect of this episode is that it divides our opinions but then again we would only be arguing about whether Audis are better than BMWs or something similar. I've had enough of all this.

patently
[ QUOTE ] what actual harm has come to any individual as a result. [/ QUOTE ] Lies inherently cause harm. In this case, every TSN user that is exposed as a liar who has fabricated his/her entire online persona slightly dents the credibility of TSN as a whole. If I started to get the feeling that most or all of you were making the whole thing up, I'd kind of lose the will to come here. I certainly wouldn't ask for advice or suggestions. So harm is indeed done. Nevertheless, compassion and forgiveness are something that we will all call upon at some point, so we should not refuse to extend them. But the that needn't stop us watching our backs .
whisky
Just read through this debacle, wow! At the end of the day its a forum about cars! I think its created an unbelievable reaction from many people on here... Shock horror an intruder, in our safe little forum. So someone made up some stories about a few cars to feel part of something, and as a result is made to publicly humiliate himself. Mc5, respect for having the balls to throw yourself into the lions den, respect on managing to fool everyone for so long, sort yourself out and you'll go far. Reading about you and some of the mindless comments that have been made about you has made my day. Live and let live eh!

RedRobin
Hi patently, you are right in what you post. If many more people were liars on TSN then I too wouldn't still be here and the site's fundamental value would be totally lost. BUT, the percentage of such liars is extremely small (isn't it?) and with so many members it's somewhat inevitable....Any bets on it never happening again in the future? I'm confident that you understand from my various posts that no way am I condoning such lies and deception but I'm just trying to offer a perspective overview.
