cribb55
Hi all recently my ABS warning light has come on and the ABS indeed doesn't work anymore (I tested it on wet cobble stone street). At first (before testing) I thought it may well only be a sensor, but seeing as it actually isn't working anymore, can anyone tell me what is wrong? I do have a service coming up, but would prefer to have an idea what it is in order not to get ripped off unnecessarily. My car is a 98 A3 1.8T cheers for any help or pointers! s3geezer
um - sorry. I think a diagnostic thing will have to be connected up.
khufu
I would check all the sensors down at the wheels - make sure they are clean. If the ABS detects a fault anywhere, it switches off the whole system so it could just be a sensor. if you have anybody near you with VAGCOM, they could check for you. cribb55
Hey Khufu, thanks. I do have a Haynes Manual, but not sure if that will tell me where the sensors are. Do you? Any idea where I would find them and what they look like? I am also in scotland, where abouts are you? cheers
BenjaminTDI
Do you clean your car with a jet wash? You may have just nudged one of the sensors with the high water pressure, I know it sounds stupid but it happens. Best thing to do is get it hooked up to diagnostics and have it read the code. khufu
I wondered about that with reference to Clan . They are bolted into the hubs, just follow the wires. I have VAGCOM, if you are anywhere near Ayrshire as I live in Kilwinning. The problem is my laptop - the battery is dodgy and last about 5 mins LOL, should be enough time to check though. cribb55
BenjaminTDI, thanks for the pointer. i only really wash my car in the regular car wash. No jet wash. Khufu, I am over in Edinburgh, not exactly next door to Ayrshire Thanks for the offer tho! Where did you get VAGCOM from? I thought only the garages had that? I guess i am just trying to get any repair done at non-dealer prices. I will see what I see from the sensors though. Thanks again guys.
