interesting quote here about the DSG and 'fart' noise that Leman brought up a while ago...

[ QUOTE ]

It also cuts the power at every change and then when it re-engages it burns off the excess fuel so you hear a whoosh at the exhaust when this happens, very interesting sound

[/ QUOTE ]

does that dispell our theory about the fart being the dump valve, or is it just not true?!

I first saw the video about 6 months ago and my only issues are: -

confused.gif The clock has probably been added after.

confused.gif The speedo is not quite to 100 kph at the end or very difficult to see when the clock stopped and an accurate read on the speedo.

confused.gif We all know the reliabilty of the Golf speedo reading accurately.

So, while I want to believe 0-100 in 6 secs, there are too many ifs in this video and there is no showing of any controlled environment (flat roads, linked timing and speed meters - like you get in a dyno testing. Given time, a video and a computer and I reckon I get get the slowest car in the world to show it looks like 0-100 in 6 secs.

All I know is mine goes quick enough when I ask it to and I enjoy it whether it is 6 secs or nearly 7.

mu - I don't know who wrote: "It also cuts the power at every change and then..." but, unless I'm misunderstanding, I thought that one of the major advantages of DSG is that it doesn't interrupt the drive train and doesn't cut power at every gear change.

GTiCrow - You wrote: "All I know is mine goes quick enough when I ask it to and I enjoy it whether it is 6 secs or nearly 7" - That's exactly how I also feel about it. I've just borrowed a Mk4 TDI while my Mk5 GTI is having its DSG's Mechatronic Module replaced and the TDI feels like a 1-litre marsh mallow with no brakes!!

I must admit, I did wonder that when I read it. I was also confused today by the fact that the gearbox in the new Jag XK changes quicker than the DSG boxes!!!
