I've been using Mobil 1 0W-30 ESP 504.00 Spec which is what was given to me when I bought my car from the dealer. The other day I popped back into the dealer to get some more and they had run out, they had been delivered Castrol SLX LongTec instead, 503.01 spec, 0W-30. Now, I've never heard any of you mention LongTec on here before and was wondering if it is safe to use in my S3 on AVS? Also, as the SLX range has been replaced by EDGE, apparently the 0W-30 replaces LongTec and is still (503.01 Spec) and the 5W-30 replaces Formula SLX Longlife (504.00 Spec). I thought Formula SLX Longlife was 0W-30!?!?! SO why is the replacement 5W-30............and should I use the 503.01 SLX LongTec in my car????? Which "EDGE" will you be buying? Cheers people! Paul Posted February 27, 2006 Report Share Posted February 27, 2006 503.01 is the old AVS spec. 504.00 is the new spec incorporating several oils in one, including the old 503.01 Ive given up following Castrols stupid names, just go by the VW spec. I just don't understand why the only longlife 504.00 oil Castrol now manufacture is a 5W-30 and is said to replace Formula SLX II which was a 0W-30 right?
