Full Milltek Exhaust system?

Hi Guys,

A lot of the threads here argue that the only way to get a hike in BHP without invalidating my warranty is to fit a full Milltek exhaust system including hi-flow sports cats. But what I can't find anywhere here or on there website is how much that is going to give me in BHP increase? I have a Golf V R32, the new one, just got it a few weks ago, so could anyone help me with this and tell me how much I can expect to get if I install the Milltek system mentioned above?

Thanks

Emile

AFAIK the Milltek is all about "freeing up" the exhaust cycle of the combustion process. So it's not about adding bhp necessarily, but more about allowing the engine to have a free-er exhaust route for the gases if that makes sense.

Reckon only a few (< 5 ?) horsepower would be "released" by doing this mod - on top of a remap the Milltek could change this value to somewhere between 10-20 extra.

What should be apparent is slightly more responsiveness and a more "throaty" sound.

I may well be looking at the same option, but Milltek had not released prices or availability when I spoke to them 2 weeks ago.

In essence Emile, although Milltek haven't released the Milltek for the Mk5 quite yet (unless it's happened in the last few days and they haven't updated their web site), you should expect a gain of approximately 20 bhp with the cat back exhaust and add about 8 bhp with the hi-flow sports cats, but both of these would be coupled with a remap.

www.amdtechnik.com are still the best people to talk to about remaps (again they haven't yet released the remap for the Mk5 R32), because of the close relationship between AmD and Milltek (Milltek own a percentage of the company).

If you added the exhaust and cats without the remap, you'd still probably expect a hike of around 20 bhp, but adding the remap will do so much to make the car more smooth flowing and fun to drive.

Up 20 bhp with the sports cats though as well (but no remap). If you did the cat back only, you'd probably see an extra 15 bhp.

Helfinger and I both went to AmD Stage 2.5, an unlisted upgrade which is stage 2 plus the sports cats and both cars dyno runs are pretty much identical at 278 bhp. I did it because I knew I would be going to Stage 4 later on, which includes the Schrick cams and a different remap.

Oh sorry forgot to ask, but if I get the remap then my warranty will go south right? If I wanna keep my warranty I should only get the Milltek stuff right?

A remap won't invalidate your warranty per se. It would depend on whether the remap could be blamed for whatever problem you were trying to have sorted under warranty.

It's probably best to talk to your dealer about a remap first if you are worried. If they don't like the idea of it, talk to another dealer. They often have different opinions. 169144-ok.gif

Its likely that if your dealer is not very understanding, changing anything will invalidate the warranty, and that includes the exhaust. Go and have a word with the senior service manager. Mine seems to be very understanding and when pushed he said "we don't really care what you do to the car as we can claim back any parts replaced from the warranty dept." Have to wait and see how true that is when something big falls off though!!

Have also asked my stealer about this and he says the same. The remap/milltek ect doesnt automatically invalidate the warranty but if they can prove that i has caused any future faults then obviously you wont be covered which i suppose is just fair game. Ive decieded to wait until next year when my warranty runs out. If i keep the car then i will mod it as i wont have a warranty to invalidate ! 169144-ok.gif
