toti
About to make my final adjustment before i lock my order in once and for all. To all you GTI owners any regrets from the trim you hav selected? Eg. Durability, comfort, compliments from non GTI owners?? Cheers
RedRobin
Only 8 months of ownership but absolutely no regrets so far about cloth for both durability and appearance reasons. There probably aren't that many 1yr+ owners here yet.
mainy
I'm more than happy with my interlagos cloth From what I've seen of VW leather seats that are 2-3 years old the leather tends to sag and not wear very well. Also VW "leather" is not a full leather seat, various parts are "leatherette"
frazervisser
Well i love my leather seats. I use autoglym leather car stuff on them and they look the db's. I wear jeans every day and have two kids. I have not had one stratch or nick. The best bit about leather is if you do get mud on it or the kids spill something on it, it just wipes clean. I will never go back to cloth on a car again - i also think it looks better IMHO PS im on 13 months now
amokwa
Happy with my leather car is currently parked up all week as I'm working away from home. Always smells quality when I open it up on the weekend for a blast.
Chav
Here we go again eh! All the chaps with leather will tell you how good it is , ....and all the chaps with cloth will tell you how much better it is than the leather!
RedRobin
To be fair, Chav, the original poster is only trying to establish which is the best choice for him as he's at the final ordering stage and it makes sense to ask other owners. All we can do is tell him our own individual choices and why and leave him to make his own final decision.

[/ QUOTE ] Your right up to a point, i would hate to to become a 17" vs 18" debate. But as red said he just wants the views of peeps who have had the car for a year+ to see if they have had any probs or tips. He was not in the style of other topics saying leather is cr@p cloth rocks disscuss. so i tough it was ok. BUT lets see how it goes
RedRobin
Chav, we shouldn't have to keep justifying ourselves in response to such comments. If the topic is of no interest to you, that's fair enough, and you can easily check out and contribute to any of the other zillions of topics which make up TSN. gtiveedubber
I think cloth will start to smell after 2 to 5 years depending on how well you look afte the car. That's something that shouldnt happen as much with leather. That is one of the main reasons i went with the leather.

SMB
I think it depends whether you want to spend the time keeping leather looking nice, the comments earlier about leather looking tired probably come from a car that hasn't been treated to leather cleaner and conditioner. Leather needs maintaince , cloth doesn't , but if you treat leather well it should last longer. The leather/leatherette debate is a non issue as all cars with leather interior have some leatherette ( my 8 year old VR6 highline did for example so it's not a cost pinching exercise.) consensus here is that it seems both last well, so it's personal choice. RedRobin
Stinkerooty-Pooarama!! I hadn't thought about any smell factor with cloth. I had cloth in my BMW for nearly 15 years and without any smell problems. Could it be the heat of Oz?
Bounce
something to consider is the heat in the summer i know my leather seats gets really hot, it can make you abit sweaty

RedRobin
Hoping that everyone will realise that I'm sincerely trying to be objective and not be saying that I think one is better than the other just because I chose it (I'm beginning to think that 18s may be preferable to me than the 17s I got).... Leather Pros: - It looks high quality. - It's very durable providing it's looked after. - It's very desirable in the second-hand car market. Leather Cons: - It can become saggy/baggy. - It's 'slippier' when driving. - It's not so comfortable in very hot weather. - It needs more maintenance. Cloth Pros: - It's not 'slippy' but 'grippy' when driving. - It looks better being Interlagos homage to the GTI icon. - It requires very little maintenance. Cloth Cons: - It's not considered as 'luxury' as leather. - It may not be as durable as leather. - It may smell over time in very hot climates. John_Doe
1 year on and the silver nappa smells delightful. Due to regular cleaning and treatment with leather milk or liquid leather....however having previously owned fabric / cloth interiored cars I recall there being a constant smell of stale farts!!!! frazervisser
Does the liquid leather smell of leather. If so where do you get it from?
