JasonP
Thought the car was feeling a bit odd this morning so went to the local garage to check the tyre pressures (theres a 1st time for everyting!!!) and lo and behold, one of the rears is near enough flat. Checked to see how much pressure I need to put in using the chart on the door panel, 39 - 42 psi!!! This seems very high to me. Can anyone advise of what the optimum pressure would be. Many thanks in anticipation.
Lynas
What size tyres? 235/17/45's? Mine are at 38 and are checked everyweek
Avus_Bub
JP, I run my 1.8t at 37 all round with 235/40.18's fitted. I would think Audi might have an idea as to what pressures to put in, after all they built the car! Check them at least once a fortnight (or if there's a dramatic weather change) when cold – and they’ll last longer, you’ll use less fuel , the car will drive better, and above all it’ll be safer for you and other road users. You also risk irreparable and undetectable damage to your tyres if you run them under inflated for any length of time. rant over BUB
Lynas
The recommended tyre pressures are either hidden in fuel cap or on door pillar, drivers side. Tells you there what to use depending on tyres 37 / 38 is about right. i'm doing mine by the book at
Scotty
My S4 has the pressures on the drivers door pillar. For the B6 S4 unladen, it should be 39 all round. I up then to 43ish for trackdays etc. If you go softer on the front, you'll kill the tyres shoulders as they'll fold under.
edo
confirmed. Previous owner had let the fronts go low on mine and the edges of the fronts were mashed. Did get 19k out of them though..
JasonP
Cheers for all the responses, I had checked the panel on the door which states 39-42, I just thought that it seemed high, a colleague of mine just checked the pressures on his car and the recomended pressures lower than Audi recomend for the S4. All 4 tyres now checked and topped up to 39psi and mental note to oneself to check more often!!!!
