JonoNZ
I know I've been looking for these for some time, so now I have finally got a copy of this from my dealer I thought I'd post on here. For those curious, there is no pre-out on the RCD500 from what I can tell. There is a headphone out, but no pre-out. Enjoy...
petsy
My feeling is that there should be one seeing that when you order the soundpack option you also get an amplifier which is placed under the passenger seat.
drpellypo
I thought that was just on dynaudio?
Snoopy
Very interesting, I really really expected the RCD500 to have a line out like the MFD2 does. But on the plug that SHOULD have it its Identical to the RCD300 and does not have the pins at all. This brings the HUGE question of how is the signal to the Soundpack (in the golf) sent from the headunit. Also in the pasat with the RCD500 hows the signal sent to the Dynaudio system. Makes you wonder why you have to order the RCD500 to get the external amp (in the soundpack and Dynaudio pack) if theres no difference on the pins out. hold on though. Only think i can think of that i cannot remember on the RCD300 is headphone out i maybe wrong though. In this case thats probably what they use as a line out of sorts its just the translation is different.
JonoNZ
Correct me if I'm wrong, but headphone output can be up to 5V, pre-outs are usually 2V from memory. However, quite a few amps can accept up to 5V on their pre-amp inputs. VW are either using the headphone out into the soundpack amp, or just using speaker level outputs. Not ideal. Does the soundpack include a sub?
Snoopy
Soundpack is just an amp with 6x25W + 2x20W with uprated speakers. I think the 6x25W will be the amp the 2x20 just the standard headunit, from what i have seen of the wiring of one. Preouts i have seen anywere from 0.1V in the early days to 8V+ rms depending who makes it, there no set rules there probably larger out there i have not handled so far. xscreamsuk
I'm gonna have a good look for this amp, as I paid for soundpack, was told I have it, but am not convinced. Dealer turned turned on system, and said, Oh yes that sounds better than a normal golf, it must be fitted,
