jon79f
Hey all you Aussie (sydney) owners, is anyone keen to set up a similar day in Aus. Obviously would need to wait for my car to arrive, but would be interested. Undertook a similar course when I was 18, this could be a good refresher. If anyone is keen, I will see what is around. nhs
Skifly and Muppetboy - are you in manuals or in DSGs? Doing the car limits day in a DSG was relatively easy regarding gears for me - I could concentrate on position, steering and speed and hope the box got it right - even so there were issues when at the time I should have been in second but wasn't! No doubt there is more to do in a manual Most cars on the course are manuals - hope your day goes well
stevie_d
As some other GTI folk are doing a full course perhaps we can organise an activity day, where there could be a dozen or more of us. Obviously we'll get less tuition and it's more of a refresher course, but it would be good to see so many GTI's around

MOSE
[ QUOTE ] I only use Optimax although even on Tesco value fuel it will beat an Aston... [/ QUOTE ] It will beat an Aston, agreed, but it depends on whether it was built by Corgi or Dinky.
nhs
Some downtime, some opportunities to look for best race line - look and learn, some "follow my leader", some "do your own practice" I wan't bored Make sure you take clothes for rain though.... nhs
Steel grey must be fast - beat the two Elises on the Car Limits course today Steel Grey GTI 1min 3secs; best of two Elises 1 min 5 secs (Lotus Elise 111s and Lotus Elise Sport 160). Neither Elise driver looked happy Hope Chris and Hal can do the same to the Lotus Elise S1 on Friday next week - good luck
stevie_d
NHS> You were slower than last time too! Damn you for being 0.1 sec ahead of me
garcon magnifique
I suppose it proves one thing - being a proper car, it takes a certain degree of skill to make an Elise go quickly! All the same, very impressive to hustle a GTI round two secs quicker than an Elise.

Simonl
Was it wet. The last time i went round silverstone in the wet, i had elises for breakfast... in my audi!
nhs
Damp - not wet..... And for sure, I fully appreciate Garcon's comments.... Residual ESP (i.e. after ESP is turned off) and ABS makes a huge difference I was hugely impressed with the Elise acceleration and speed Both Elise drivers were hugely impressed with the GTI's braking abilities (even better than one of the Elise's with "after market" upgraded disks) Regarding fuel, if I'd known there was a 102 Ultimate station within 10 miles of my departure point, I'd would have run with it.... As it was I was on bioenergy Tesco 99! But agree - perhaps see if you can get 102 for next week And for sure, an expert with an Elise could trash me with a GTI - but I'm not sure how it would work with experts in both on a damp surface Either way, the Elise owners/drivers went away with entirely new respect for the GTI
Muppetboy
Well hopefully the weather will hold up for tomorrow! I'm a little anxious/nervous actually! Any last minute tips? ps I'll be upping the tyres to 48 per nhs' tip!
nhs
Andy takes things at your speed and, based on what you can do with the car now, you will learn more The day will help you get to know your GTI a little better in ways that you couldn't safely do on the public highway And having now done Car Limits in the dry, the wet and the damp, I can honestly say I prefer all of them - each taught me something about my car and its handling that I hadn't experienced before. And wet was the best fun Just enjoy and have a great day Oh, and if you enjoy it enough, sign up for the July or September activity days
