misterc Posted May 14, 2006 Report Share Posted May 14, 2006 Hello all - I am on the variable servicing and my Castrol SLX longlife bottle has just been emptied at 10,000 miles - this engine loves oil! I understand this is no longer sold and that Castrol Edge 5W30 is the replacement. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/store...electorGroupId= I am just surprised that this recommended oil is the same oil being recommended for my other halfs leon cupra (1.8 turbo petrol). Nelson_R32 Posted May 15, 2006 Report Share Posted May 15, 2006 If you are on variable servicing you need SLX3 (previously SLX2), not SLX Longtec. SLX2 used to be 0W-30 but SLX3 is now 5W-30 (don't worry, its fine to mix them). VAG Centres still sell Castrol SLX3, but Halfords and BP sell the same stuff under the name Castrol Edge.
