Crashie
I have recenlty just bought my forth Audi in last seven years, upgrading my V6 Coupe for a S3. I love the car but think for a performance car it requires to be revved to get the required torque / performance. I was thinking of getting a re-map done to provide a little more torque at the front end but am worried about keeping it original also, can anyone pass there thoughts on re-map and whether it is a gooid idea or not? sufu
I think its safe to say everyone would urge you to go for it have a quick search through the A3/S3 forum and you'll find numerous posts about remapping and the results you could expect
Johnski
I too have had this debate several times with myself. I cant see the extra 35bhp worth the 500 price tag which it carries, not too mention the unimpressive torque increase figures. Yes i think a remap would make it more drivable but i was advised that remapping the standard ECU is not always a good idea. Just my thoughts although i would like to drive an S3 with a remap too see the differences for myself.
ChriS3
Crashie, you're a very lucky person! You live just up the road from Star Performance (Kirkcaldy). They remapped my car, and the difference is incredible. The service there is very good too. They specialise in VAG cars and Jim, the guy that owns the place, also has an S3 - they know what they're talking about!

Some cars can come out closer to +50bhp and +90ftlb torque a standard S3 is like having the brakes on. The S3 is the ONLY car i have ever had two of, and not got bored. Both have been remapped. where you based, maybe someone could demonstrate?
Paul
Crashie, from what i hear Star is definitely the place to visit in your area. Many a tweaked Audi has appeared from their handy work.

[/ QUOTE ] Unfortunately there is water that divides myself and most of the members of the forum I am impressed with your knowledge of the S3 paul so I will be taking your word for the comparison in post remap status. I think mills from this site is closer to me so hopefully i can drive his to make a good comparision. With so many horror stories about i am just apprehensive about mapping just yet. I think where the S3 suffers is after about 5.5k revs, so hopefully a remap may be the solution to this. To reply to the original post i think from research that AMD and Revo seem to be the most popular companies of choice for those who take the remapping route. ChriS3
Johnski, I was apprehensive before getting the remap done. To be honest I really didn't think the car needed it. Like you say, it's a bit flat at the higher revs but in general it felt fast. You'll change your mind if you drive a remapped car. I did.

graemep
Had the AMD remap done on my car in November, and the difference was immediately noticable. This added 35bhp but more noticable was the increase in torque (about 85lb/ft). Under acceleration there is definately more of a kick in the back when accelerating - this comes at around 2k rpm and a second surge of power is felt at 5.5k. Despite this the car is essentially unchanged driving at lower speeds. The big difference in day to day driving is the flexibility this adds on the motorway - the car pulls better in every gear, even 6th, and almost removes the need to change down dto find a bit more power. Best £550 I ever spent.. From what I remember Revo do a 5 hr trial.
