Hudster
This must have been posted before but I had a play on search and could only find threads on the A3 60k service, so here goes... My Golf IV 1.8T is on 58k and due it's service, VW quoted me £169 which is fine. It's still under warranty and I'm happy collecting my VW stamps for now. They also suggested I needed the cam belt and brake fluid changed at the following prices Cam belt £315 Brakes £68 So I have 2 questions really: 1 - what's the real opinion on when you should change the cam belt? I've seen everything from 60k to 120k on this forum and I dont want to blow £300 if it's really not necessary yet 2 - £68 for brake fluid? seems a lot but I am relatively inexperienced with this stuff - shall I just get the local garage to do this? thanks in advance
Oli
There is no recommended time for a belt change on a VW, but I would suggest getting it done at around 60,000 miles. We are an independent, obviously miles away from you, but how are prices compare to main dealers are as follows; Your service would cost approx £110, The cambelt change would be approx £220 and the brake fluid change is approx £35. thats quite a saving!!!! If you want to keep up the VW stamp in your book, which on a car that age doesn't make any difference, then get it serviced at VW, then get any extra's done at a specialist. We always use genuine parts on any vehicle we work on
