j1mmy
My A4 Avant 2.5 tdi Sport is due for a service at 43,000 miles. The breakes need doing as the light has also come up and I have been quoted £550 from Poole Audi. The service which included oil and oil filter, fuel filter and pollen and air filter is £414. Front break pads £136. Is this reasonable or am i being ripped off. The car is a late 52 plate (so about 3.5 yrs old)and was last serviced at 30,000 miles. It is on extended servicing, but at 13,000 miles between services this doesn't sound like much like long life. Your comments would be elcome, plus details of non dealer alternatives in the Southampton, Poole Bournemouth area would be welcome.
UBM
Sounds about right if you have your brakes done too. Usual service about 250 - 300 notes.

j1mmy
Is this classed as a big service. My old VW GTI Turbo was at most £350 for a big service and I thought that was expensive.
Soapsuds
yep - about right. Just done 40k service on my 1.9TDi for £70 parts and my own labour. That inc. pollon filter, fuel filter, air filter, oil filter and oil. Labour is a killer. Take it out of Audi service network and it will be cheaper, or do it yourself if you plan on keeping it for a while..... pads and dics are about £50 for the parts. 1hr job max. [/ QUOTE ] yes - apart from the cambelt change @ 80k on your engine That is about £350 alone + service.
j1mmy
I was more than happy to service my previous cars as they were rather straight forward (Pug 306 TDI, Ford Orion, Escorts etc) but this and my old Golf need to be plugged in to check for faults etc, and seem to be far more complicated. Oil and filter changes would still be easy, but it's checking the rest I would be unhappy with. Also doesn't the paint warrenty etc state that you have to have it checked at eacj service for it to remain valid ?
Soapsuds
paint warranies aint worth the paper they are written on - their get out clause is cause by stone chips etc..... i wouldnt worry about that!!! If it rusts, you have a poor repair or something - these puppies are bullet proof!! The servicing is the easiest i have EVER done on a car - very good design and easy to get to all servicable items. VAG-COM is al you need to check for faults - if there is nothing on your dash you have no major faults. Find someone in your area with VAG-COM to do a quick scan for you - by em a pint and bob's your uncle. Just do it yourself and put the remaining cash in your holiday fund pot or something
j1mmy
Thanks for your advice, I may have a look tonight and see if I feel brave enough to DIY.
Cupramax
I've found Poole Audi a little expensive to say the least, the main problem is their labour per hour cost...
whisky
I just got quoted £208 for my first service with Poole Audi which is currently looking to fall on abouut 12-13K. I know its pretty much just an oil change but I didn't think it was too bad ? Maybe I'm wrong (and its an A3)
SPLiiX
I went to another dealer 60miles away from here to buy my car as they were way cheaper. For servicing I phone both places and the dealer 60miles away is always cheaper and I go their out of spite too!! I saved £90 on my own car for its first service and £95 on my mothers A3 2.0T Sportback. I know it takes me 2 hours travelling time instead of 30mins and £20 on petrol, but the aint getting my dosh
stevej69
Blimey, ive got that fun to come with Poole Audi then!
j1mmy
I'll see if I can get them to discount it a bit, as I feel that it is rather expensive for waht it is.
JasonP
Why not try and find an independant to do the job instead ? Will probably save you a few pounds, when i had my discs and pads done my local independant was a lot cheaper than the stealers were quoting. VTEC_Killer
That price seems about right mate - I was quoted £375 for my 2nd AVS but ended up paying £200 to local VW/Audi Specialist. Same job . . almost have the price! Sheraz
Kell
If I were you & wanted to keep my Service book Audi stamped, then I'd get them to do the servicing, but go elsewhere for the brakes. Even saying that though, that sounds excessive even for a major service. Though not by much. Ours was up for £373 and on at 83,000 miles. We switched to fixed serviing as we were just getting 13k between AVS services too and then the price dropped to £214 - but obviously now needs to be done every 10k. So much for them being able to go 30k between services!!
mb
Autotechnik in Southampton are a bit expensive but very good independent VAG specialists, I have VAGCOM & am in Bournemouth this week if you decide to service it yourself

Nelson_R32
I would find a competitive price an Audi Centre if you want your car to be worth more than a Carrot after three years...
Petem95
I paid £126 for an AVS service from a specialist, however I have noticed recently that they appear to have reset the service indicator as if it was a fixed 10k service. I did also ask for a fixed service as well, which wouldve been ~£90, but when I went to collec they told me they'd done the AVS instead. I forget the quote from Bristol Audi, but it was over £200. VTEC_Killer
That is price is too good to be true For my AVS the parts worked out to be £120; nevermind the labour! Sheraz
