morage_key_ring
hi, my GT TDI coolent level drops pretty fast, it's been almost 2 months and it's i've topped it up twice!!! i don't see smoke come out of my exhuast, but i can't check if there's leak under the car (cos it's got a cover plate). Is it a really bad sign? i do occasionally push the engine (but never to the red zone), also i had the engine remapped, will this be the reason? or should i take it to the garage and get it checked? Thanks for any advice
sayerbloke
Have a look at the bottom of the oil-fill cover on the engine. Is it covered in a horrible yellow slime? If so, that's a bad thing. Either way, I'd be tempted to get it inspected... it shouldn't be using water that quickly
Pastit130
Have a good look at the lower ends of the radiator - VWs can be weak at the lower right front (Passats in particular). Also worth checking the top hose joint for a possible leak. Mine went in both these places. If you've no sludge in the coolant tank and it's all the right colour you should be okay as far as head gaskets go. To be really sure I popped the cover plate off the underside of my car and had a good look underneath with a torch. Looking down from the top isn't so easy! RedRobin
I've only just topped up my coolant for the first time after 12,400 miles and 10 months....Mk5 GTI 2.0 T FSI. It was showing Minimum level on the tank.
