s3geezer
If I were to get my S3 remapped what other engine upgrades should I also perform so that the engine copes better with the extra power and heat etc. The standard Audi filter is just as happy in a remapped S3 I've heard but what about the other engine components? dalepearson
My personal opinion is most things will be ok as long as your careful. An uprated DV would make better response, but not actually a requirement. Obviously with the more power, there is more boost and more heat. I think the most important thing is allowing enough time for the engine to properly warm up before giving it to much, and also when ending your journey allowing enough time for the engine to cool before turning it off. Johnski
Unless you spend a lot of money you wont be able to get good power increases after a remap. As dale said allow time for the engine to warm up and cool down to prolong its life, also make sure it recieves all its required services and the right oil is put in it...not longlife oil btw Just out of interest how long does everyone leave the engine running to let it cool down. I know it depends on how hard the car has been driven in the jounrey etc but I tend to leave mine for about a minute...is this too short a time? MattS3
whats wrong with longlife oil , as long as you change it every 6k? Thats what I do and leave the car on AVS (thats meant as a question, not a critical comment)
shark_90
What's the point in using longlife oil on AVS if you change it every 6k?
s3geezer
I do 6k in 10 weeks, but if the car does very low mileage, then I guess you could...
MattS3
The reason I put longlife in is so it doesn't cause odd readings on the DIS. At £50 per 4 litres, I 'd guess its pretty reasonable stuff ?
s3geezer
Matt - just seen in your signature. What's a phatbox? Is it an MP3 storage device that hooks up like a CD changer?
Paul
Yes its is. Can be configured to use OEM headunits to control it. I use the AVS spec'd longlife oil and have no intention of changing it. £11+ a litre its good Castrol quality.

[/ QUOTE ] Looking at your post count and the fact you've had 2 re-mapped S3's, i'll take comfort in the fact you know whats what. I'll carry on sticking the Castrol in

shark_90
By all means change your oil, but I can't see the benefit of using the longlife AVS oil if you're going to keep changing it. What do you mean about odd readings on the DIS? I know I'm not an A/S3 driver but I do still have a 1.8T humming under the bonnet
Paul
I would assume Matt means the AVS prediction of miles left till service due. Its alleged to monitor the quality of oil amongst other parameters, and update the prediction. New oil(any oil) could throw this out, but im not sure if it actually does, ive never tried it. Im more than happy with the AVS spec oil, its done me well over a combined total of 60K miles across two S3 and neither have used much oil, so castrol it is. Im on AVS, which i usually complete well before its due, and have a haldex service every time. I am going to add to this, and get spark plugs replaced(or fit them myself) every service, and cambelt, waterpump and ancilleries well early. shark_90
I see. I get what you mean about how it could throw out the next service indicator. I've never had a car on AVS, and never will
fingermouse
im running avs and am changing the oil every 6k now, but Im looking into getting a 25 litre drum of it on the cheap . the avs oil that came out at 6k was as black as the ace of spades so glad i did it.
