davd
My cambelt is due for replacing next month, dealers have quoted £350+vat, my local garage will be a lot cheaper his labour costs are half what the dealers are and he will use VW parts . It is due for 60000 service and first MOT so it will be very expensive .I am a bit worried that a little local garage will not be able to do the cam belt properly .Ihave used him for years for other cars but i have heard that the cam belt is an hard job .Car is 130TDI
Rustynuts
£350 inc vat maybe about right but plus vat is a lot. It sounds expensive, but your right, its a complicated job, and not for any old garage to do. Try some other local dealers and compare prices. philipdayton
Try and find a local Independant VW specialist. I paid £250 for a cambelt and tensioner change and an oil service on a 1.8T Sport. At £350 you're just paying for extortionate (dodgy spelling)dealer labour costs. They need to bring the bumper forward to gain access so its time comsuming more than complicated. Good Luck
