Servicing

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Hoping you can help me out with some advice. I have had a Golf Gt Tdi 110bhp on a T reg since Nov 2005. I have just clocked up 62,000 miles and my oil service reminder has started coming when i first turn the engine over.

This lead me to reading the service manual, i have now relised that car is due a major service (nightmare). I contacted my local dealership and they quoted me about £250. Would you reccommend getting it done?

Also, the car acelleration has started to jerk (slightly) at times? Could this be the beging of water build up on the fuel filter or am i just being paranoid???

Cheers

I would always get the servicing done. May be cheaper for you to go to a local specialist (Not back street!) rather than a main dealer but its up to you.

Your Cambelt must be getting close to needing to be replaced but I'm not 100% on schedules so I'll let Mulkbear answer that one!

I recently paid £170-00 for a 12 month service that did not include the cam belt as it had already been replaced. I had it done at a well respected local motor engineer but found out later that I would have been charged the same price at my local VW dealer. Not sure which I trust most but it made me wonder.

Note: My son is a well qualified mechanic but chooses to not service VW diesels even for himself!

Oh and yes get it done.

I have an 01 GT TDI 115 bhp. I pay around £80 for a service at the garage where they do our company cars. We have a few VW and Skoda diesels, so I trust them. I get my oil, fuel filter, pollen filter etc done. They also use VW approved oil.

Cambelt cost me £130 at 50k last year and its all running sweet. 169144-ok.gif

That is a good price from a dealer put your vehicle is not a PD engine and is only a basic engine so going to a local specialist is not a major problem.

Has your vehicle every had a cam belt ? It is due every 60k or 4 Years.

The jerking of the vehicle could be down to servicing (blocked air filter)

If you've done 60k miles, the previous owner wont've had the decency to change the cam belt right before selling it, so add another 20k miles onto that at a guess. It's time to change it. Don't wonder about when it was last done or whether it'll last til next service, cos if it snaps, it's a disaster.

That's if I take it that you've clocked 62k miles up on top of what previous owners have put on it.
