Decked
Just received the SPS unit my my sisters Mk5 Gti and was wondering if anyone knows what what the different between the programs do? Can't find anything on the web about it..... all I want to know about is number 2-Prog1, 3-Prog2 and number 9-CP? Also, where can I find the OBD port on the Mk5 (didn't watch them do it) Thanks for your help
skifly
port under steering wheel if correct... no idea on maps - but better be a review soon!!
stevie_d
Port is under the accelerator pedal iirc. I think the remaps are just different levels of extremeness iirc, also if you have the SPS-3 then it will put the ECU into shutdown mode and the car will start but will be undriveable. Looks good, be sure to give us a full rundown on it
Decked
I only went for the basic SPS for my sister as she only wants to turn the car back to stock when she goes into the garage, but it does have set programs on the unit. I have the SPS3 for my R with Revo stage 2 remap, so I was hoping stage 2 remap was accessible via this SPS on prog 2(unlikely but wishful thinking) The select + SPS unit enables you to connect your laptop to the unit and modify the Revo setup like my SPS 3 does. Decked
I've found it..... Thanks select As with our first generation of Revo Technik programming, changing between performance and stock modes, enabling our supplemental security system, or opting for a more aggressive octane specific program, was accomplished using our optional SPS-1 or SPS-2 switches. Now available* for the new FSI technology is the ‘select’, our entry level version without PC connectivity. The ‘select’ allows the user to switch between stock and two octane specific performance programs and includes the added benefit of the Anti theft feature which is designed to disable the ECU itself. Melchior
Functions of the select are: 0 - communications 1 - stock mode 2 - Program 1 (95ron mode) 3 - Program 2 (98ron mode) 4 - Anti-theft on 5 - Anti-theft off
RedRobin
Just a thought, but I assume a user can select '1 - stock mode' and also '5 - Anti-theft off' so that the dealer can test drive after work (if appropriate) but without realising anything. Otherwise - "Well sir, we don't know what to make of what's going on....Your car won't drive"
Melchior
You can only select 'one at a time' Robin.
sburke1
Forgive my ignorance but is this what one may call a 'plug and play' type re-map? As in, just stick it in, get the uprated performance and then later take it out as one wishes to go back to standard ecu setup?

[/ QUOTE ] With Revo, you make a one off purchase of the software, and have an initial load from the Revo dealer's laptop via your car's OBD port. You can then purchase the optional select or selct plus device which allow you to swap between the options mentioned in an earlier post. To change, select the required programme from the rotary control on the Select device. Plug the select in to the OBD port. Turn the iginition on. Wait for beep. Turn ignition off. Remove select device.
Snoopy
My own feelings is i would highly recomend anyone that gets a revo map to also get there car rolling roaded tested afterwards by a performance specialist to see what the map is actually doing. RedRobin
[ QUOTE ] You can only select 'one at a time' Robin. [/ QUOTE ] Er, I'm not understanding too well.... Step 1 - Plug in and select 'Stock'. Then remove plug. Step 2 - Plug in again and select 'Anti-theft Off' and then remove plug. Surely a user can hand his/her car over to the dealer with both re-mapping as OEM and security set to Off.
Melchior
Yep, I see what you're saying now. Stock plus anti-theft off should be no problem.
RedRobin
Thank goodness for that cos otherwise the theft setting is a bit of a giveaway . Cheers BTW, the Revo anti-theft gizmo doesn't interest insurers in discounting your premium, folks (or should I say "volks"). Apparently the OEM security is already considered very effective. Melchior
After reading a few "stolen with keys" stories on here. the anti-theft option does sound appealing.
RedRobin
....Very appealing imo . It's something which other packages aren't offering and combined with mapping switchability....It takes some beating.
Snoopy
[ QUOTE ] Why's that, Snoopy? [/ QUOTE ] Because i got too see what was going on with our Leon Cupra R & a mates Ibiza Cupra after we Revo'ed them a few years back. I know Revo has a great fan base here so All im going to say is it was not good in our cases.
RedRobin
Hi Geoff, could you be more specific please ? I realise you don't want to be generally bad-mouthing Revo but I'm sure that all of us here understand that your reported experience would only apply to your particular findings. Not saying any more potentially leaves us with an even worse impression of Revo. Could it be that the Revo was unsuited to the Cupra "a few years back"? Snoopy
Basically they were over fuelling like a barstuard. Again i will stress the GTI IS A different CAR but after experience with friends and there chipping on many different makes and models i would always recomend now to everyone to get a check on a RR on ANY off the shelf remap by ANY COMPANY to see what it was actually doing, better be save than sorry imo. RedRobin
Cheers Geoff I agree - It's wise to rolling road check though even that will fluctuate if one is being particularly picky.
Decked
You can set the car back to stock then set the Anti theft on, but it does require you to unplug the SPS then back in again. I did try it just to scare my sister and she did wonder what I had done to her car... Although it didn't shut the car down completely like it does on my R, it just seemed to make it run extremely lumpy (about to konk out) she shut it off almost immediately [ QUOTE ] Yes, pleeeease post a review of what you think of it on the Mk5 GTI. [/ QUOTE ] It's not my car and I've only driven it a couple of times so I wouldn't be the best person to do a review. All my sister says is that it's faster and the wheels squeak when she puts her foot down (to you and me that's wheel spin!!!) On the motorway it does pull much better, but I'm used to my R so it still feels restricted to me and could do with CAI and Milltek with Hi flow cats, but she wont do it!!!! When she had the chip turned off for the first time, when it went in for a service she was so disappointed in the performance, so it was obviously doing something good. Anyway hope this helps and I'm sure someone will be along soon to provide a proper evaluation

It doesn't sound at all healthy for the engine. My expectation would be that Anti-theft On makes the engine completely dead. Does this "extremely lumpy" behaviour happen every time ?
