cheet22
I have an A8 (Yr 2000) 3.7 Model. Theres a clicking noise that appears once in a while from kinda behind the radio/air con units, that just clicks for 10-20 seconds then stops. It might then never do it again for ages. The seller said he had the heating system 'reset' as this was causing this (he told me even though I had never heard it at the time of sale), but its still there. I'm gonna go back to him again with it. Any suggestions?
Nelson_R32
It'll most defiantely be one of the 8 small air fans that are located around the dashboard. The part is relatively cheap IIRC (£30.00) but the labour to do it won't be My Dad has had 3 go on his A8 so far (6 years old)
nikw
This topic has been covered in the '8 forum on more than one occasion. One of the motors that drives the flaps in the aircon system is fed more voltage on the facelift D2 causing it to overload the rack & pinion mechanism at the limits of travel so that the pinion carries on turning and slips one tooth at a time. This is the clicking noise you can hear. A short-term cure can be effected via VAG-COM. A longer lasting one is to replace the offending part (at great labour cost), but ultimately the problem will still recur. Why Audi chose to up the voltage and thus overload the mechanism isn't known... Have a look at this thread or this one for further info.
