Roof Boxes for Avant

If you get aero bars, then I recommend getting the adapters for the box. They take up less space inside the box and look neater on the outside. Plus the clamps that come with some boxes won't grab aero bars as securely as square cross-section ones.

They're simply threaded, 'T' shaped pegs that slide into the centre channel of the roofbars.

I know - at least they were courteous and I have the loaner (which was brand new!)

Trouble is, after cleaning the loaner and getting it ready to go back, we've waited so long now that we're going to need it again soon... SAUER0421.GIF

I will consider any brands.

Just want it to be reasonably aerodynamic to minimise wind noise. From what I have read so far, the Thule 'Aero' bars seem good, and better than squarer bars.

If there are other makes that are well made, reliable and low noise bars and box combinations, i'll look at them too.

Looked at the Audi silver bars this afternoon, they seem to look very similar to the Thule 755's and Aero bars, not being able to hold them side by side, I was wondering if there are any members who can shed some light on the provider of Audi roof bars.

TBH to me a Roofbox is a Roofbox, as long as its got a decent lock on and has 350+ litres your laughing. I would go too mad looking for the most jazzy one you can find.

Naturally, for Roof Bars I'd choose the Audi/Votex ones as they aren't as expensive as you probably think. They also have two year, unlimited mileage warranty, weigh only 4kgs, have rubber inserts to reduce wind noise, are aerodynamic, fit easily and you can get them in either black or aluminium to match the roof rails smile.gif

Sad isn't it? I actually do believe in what I sell grin.gif

Cool Nelson, thats makes the roof bar choice complete. I think I may just have to take up my local stealers offer of the discounted bars.

I fully agree on the roofbox statement, a roofbox is only a roofbox and as long as it isn't a brick shape most will do the job fine, at the end of the day it would only be on the car 3 or 4 times a year anyways.

It is a pity that you don't get the roofbox from audi available in all the clours to match the car.

Yes, I have Aero bars (Thule) remember that if you go Thule all the way I.E Box,Cycle carrier and bars then you have one key!! grin.gif

The quality of the Thule Box is fantastic. Yep, you spend a bit more but it's for convienance (having one key fits all) and quality! 169144-ok.gif

To add to the debate - I didn't notice any quality difference from Thule to the other boxes. The extra £££ just wasn't justifiable.

I think the reviews and comments on Roofbox Recommends are trustworthy and accurate.

Summary: Atera's Odyssey 800 boxes share the key attributes of the Thule Atlantis series, e.g. steel reinforcing ribs, diffuser technology, load rating (80kg Odyssey, 75kg Atlantis), and an ultra quick fitting system with sliders front and rear. But thanks to their low profile fittings and lower prices we rate the Odyssey 800 boxes as the overall Winners in the Medium Length Medium Width category. I'm biased though, as that't the one I got. grin.gif
