badgera
Due to an imminent change in employment I will shortly be spec'ing a new company car. Taking into account the costs/performance/specifications I'm going to be looking at a Passat Estate. So far I think the spec I'll go for is something like this.. Passat TDI 170 DSG Metallic Mocha Black Nappa Leather Sports Seats Sports Pack (Le-Mans 17" Alloys, Fog Lights, 15mm Lower Sports suspension, Tinted rear windows) Front/rear parking sensors Ipod Prep Potentially I may also add Monsoon Soundpack (SEL already has RCD500) Bluetooth Phone + Multifunction Wheel. Firstly anybody got any comments on the Passat? I've not driven one yet (will do when I get the leasing company to sort out a local dealer to supply the car. I've not yet read any reviews of the 170TDI engine in any VW/Audi model, has anyone? Finally just a couple of questions about audio mainly. The RCD units don't seem to get favorable comments, but sadly being a company car I can't put 3rd party audio in. I may go for the Dynaudio but some other spec items might have to go. Has anybody use the Passat Bluetooth phone - is it any good - does it display numbers on the DIS? RCD500 - is the changer built in or in the Glove box? If it's built in does that mean I get to use the changer and the Ipod? thanks
mulkbear
VW Passat Estate look there best in Black and the VW Passat looks better in estate form IMO. The Multi changer is normally mounted in the centre arm rest and the I pod kit connection is normally in the glove box.
aaabbb
The CD changer is in the glovebox on Passats and I think not 100% sure that a CD changer and I-pod cannot be fitted together as the I-pod is controlled with the CD changer controls on the radio so if both are fitted the radio wont know which one to control. Not seen a Passat with bluetooth phone kit fitted but if fitted in conjuction with the mulit function wheel i am sure everything will be displayed on the dash. R32North
Love the look of the new Passat and in estate form........ not sure about the lack of a 'real' handbrake tho - electro-magno-thing-me button handbrake, whats that all about then!!! badgera
I think the electomechanical handbrake is quite a sensible addition. It removes the reliance on cables and primitive adjusters. Since the Passat has a modern ABS system all the actuators must be there anyway.
