Ecosse79
I have just bought a brand new A3 S line diesel which has covered only 1500 miles. As of yesterday a rattle has started from somwhere around the left hand rear seat. I am not sure if it is in the panel below the window. Has anyone else experienced this problem/ other rattles etc? I was hoping that I was going to get good build quility buying an Audi, but now I am starting to wonder.
cdb2
I thought the same as you but my illusions were soon shattered and I know I'm not the only one. Only about 6 warranty items outstanding at the moment, including rattly exhaust, oil leak and a fuel filler flap that won't open. Squeaky driver seats are quite common btw and then there are the knocking rear shocks that affect a lot of people and the very common steering rack replacements! Vic
This is interesting, Mine has something (probably a weld pip) rolling around in a void / box section behind the drivers seat. Only happens when I turn sharp corners or on roundabouts. Gonna get it looked at on the first service.

If I unclip the seat back and then firmly push it back into place it stops.

simon_evo
My car has done about 350 miles now and it has developed a rattle from the drivers side of the dash. Not good neither my CTR which I owned for 20 months or Evo (18 months of ownership) ever needed to visit a dealer for anything bar scheduled maintenance. So much for german build quality !!!!!!!!!!!! Nice badge, shame about the cars [/ QUOTE ] Add me to the list. I just swapped an old 1.9tdi A3 with 100k on the clock and a slight rattle from the drivers door for a 2.0tdi which has 25k on the clock a bigger rattle on the drivers door plus the rattle from the rear left seat. Weirdly though they only make themselves known on the odd journey. They are either entirely silent for the whole trip or rattle the whole way on others. lottiefox
I had 6 significantly bad rattles on the new TT. One in the dashboard itself that the dealer had to fix - the rest I fixed myself either with silicone spray or cunningly hidden black velcro. Some were apparently common problems - ashtray, glove box etc. Not what you expect on a 30K car. There is one bit that has a home-fix in it - if I remove it it starts a chain reaction of creaks and rattles round the whole car. Problem is that dealers are shocking at fixing noises, best to try and sort it yourself if you can.
Helodude
I've got two rattles coming from just behind both front seats. It only happens when I accelerate or brake, I think it's coming from the seatbelt winders.
v8griff
I had an interesting rattle experience with my local dealer. My 2000 mile old A3 TDI Sport use to "knock" when accelerating or braking hard. The noise was coming from the boot area and was driving me mad. So, off to the dealer I went and took the works Supervisor out in my car. He knew what the noise was straight away, it was the stupid plastic balls fitted on the ends of the rear parcel shelf cords banging around in the boot. Bad design IMHO, cost cutting according to the Supervisor.
