Simonl
Although the GTI wasn't on the list on the BBC website, i took the time from the TG movie i have. SamD
Nice that's quite a respectable time all in all. Wonder how much quicker it would be on a bone dry track....? Interesting that is is so much faster than the Type R..
Simonl
or indeed DSG, that was in a manual. I suspect a DSG could improve that time by at least 0.5 seconds
SamD
I have still never been in/driven a DSG one. That is my one regret with my car (and has tempted me to trade it in for another with DSG)... must resist.....
RedRobin
....Don't forget you've got a ride in my DSG GTI Sunday after next at the TSN meet at AmD. Manual version is just as great though.

SamD
How old was your Steel Grey when you traded it in? Did you get a good price?
ChrisBuer
The MKV R32 isn't on that list either. I know this is a GTI thread, but could you stick it up there for all of us R32 lot? It was 1.30.

silentandy
I sold the steel grey one privately and the DBP is an import, therefore the cost to change was relatively small.

D1MAC
You need to be careful with these times & not compare apples with oranges. Some of them are old Stig and some are new (who seems to be much faster). The same episode that the GTI time comes from has the Type R at about 1:32 odd which would sound about right given that it's more track biased and lighter (just not as comfy on an M-Way though ) Some of them are just plain silly - a Noble with same time as an MG ZT - I take it that was the 1.3 version and it was peeing down
ChrisBuer
Yes very true, the old stig (black) was a lot slower than the new stig. I watched a rather old Top Gear the other day on Sky and they were raving saying that the 1:35 time posted by the Focus RS was really quick! With the new stig, that time is pretty woeful! Muppetboy
uh? I thought they just gave the same old Stig a different coloured suit and branded him new?

Simonl
I think the GTI time posted in this thread was by the old stig in late 04. IIRC the new stig joined late last year. I might be wrong though. I did spot the CTR mistake though... but who was I to mention it on a GTI thread. Goes to show you though doesn't it, when we all bang on about 240hp vs 200hp blah blah blah, a good driver vs an OK one can make ALL the difference
Woppum
Well i'll be! I heard the new one is Gordon Murry though. Course I have no clue
Woppum
Not dissing the Gti's time in anyway, but the TG times are so varied due to different stigs and weather conditions on the day... Simply a matter of Russian roulette for some cars...
ChrisBuer
I believe the current Stig is a chap called Julian Bailey, who was an F1 Test Driver. This would explain how he drove the F1 car as you'd need experience to be able to drive one of these, you can't just jump into a F1 car!
