Top Gear Lap Times

Most amusingly (for me anyway) someone asked me if I was "The Stig" last weekend. No I wasn't wearing a white racing suit and helmet, but merely my Top Gear T-Shirt which says "I am the Stig" on the front. The waiter in the curry house asked for my autograph, when I asked why he said "because you are the Stig". A most odd experience.

This is what I just found on Google:

"Julian bailey was the Stig on top gear when they did the celeb challenge on 28th April for episode 1 of the new series 7th may - i was even lucky enough to get Justin Hawkins and Les ferdinands autographs!!! damon hill was stig for gordon ramsay on show 2 and philip glenister on show 3 May. How do i know????????? i was there when he crashed the koenigzegg on show 2 record in dunsfold on 10th may. i did four weeks work in the top gear office in white city so got to go on shoots with jezza and the boys - **cking brilliant! i don't think they use more than 2 stigs. Damon is the main one and julian stands in when hes not free.

I heard that some bloke called ben did it as a stand in once last year but no one in the office seemed to remember him and they used another stig in norway. so there!!!! the truth is here!! once and for all."

OK - Here you go.

Perry McCarthy - Stig 1. Most of the time - these guys have other committments

Ben Collins - Stig 2. Most of the time.

Stig in F1 Car - Heikke Kovalainen http://www.renaultf1.com/en/drivers/kovalainen/

When they had the Toyota Aygo football match (the first time) most of the drivers there have been the Stig at some point or another.

Top Gear is an excellent programme for entertainment - No doubt - But Top Gear Track times are an indicator only - they are not conducted to strict variables etc and one driver.

For goodness sake - Some people actually believe that the M3 CSL has a cardboard floor.

shows how much better the new mk5 chassis is compared to the old r32, 3 secs faster 169144-ok.gif and the power aint massively different.

[/ QUOTE ]

As said too many variable BUT reduce them by testing on one program were they compared all the following on the same day by the same driver with same conditions they got. (copy of a previous post of mine below)

[ QUOTE ]

Civic type R 1:32.8

Leon Cupra R 1:32.9

Golf GTI 1:33.7

Megan 225 1:34.0

Mini s works 1:34.2

C4 VTS 1:35.8

So it was even beaten by the Leon that was based on the mk4 chassis.

The GTI may have a good 0-60 time but after that its lagging compared to more recent rivals.

[/ QUOTE ]

So do you now think that meens the old mk4 chassis ie SEAT Leon Cupra R is better than the mk5 chassis?. tongue.gifwink.gifyelrotflmao.gif

Take from the figures what you will, there meeningless imo.

There was a relatively recent performance car comparison here in Australia. The cars were grouped into like types. There is not the range of cars available - Seat's aren't sold her for instance. Anyway the upshot of the test was that the GTi was not, according to the testers, a great track car - too soft in the front end. What the reviewer was saying was that what makes the GTI such a great drive on the road results in in it being not the best track car in the class.

Yer, that's pretty stiff competition , but on the pace with a Boxter over a lap of the old Nurbergring or something, that's pretty impressive.

Oh well, some people will never understand that Peak Power and 0-60 aren't the only figures for consideration!
