taigA6Q
Dear All, My 2.8 98 A6, backfired and blew the air box to bits. I have since replaced it, cleaned out the maf, ditched the pipercross panel filter which was rubbish. But I still get a backfire on starting, which unclips the box. Any thoughts. Duff coil? cam sensor? Has this happened to any one else. Please help.
cruiser647
The only thing I can think of, would be to clean every sensor you can find in the engine bay. You might need a new MAF too - they are fragile, so having been expolded on, can't be good for it!
taigA6Q
Thanks for the reply, got to grips with the problem, sticky butterfly in the throttle body. Put it down to K&N filter, the oil must get sucked in and cause havoc. A quick clean out and all OK. The maf appears OK, but I will keep an eye on it.
