Rustynuts
Yep, you read it right. General Motors has introduced a guarranteed $1.99 cost for fuel in an attempt to "help protect consumers against rising fuel prices by providing them with a partial credit for their fuel purchases for one year..." So now you can buy the most expensive, gas guzzling thirsty truck you want and have fuel costs capped and rebated by the people who sold you the feckin' thirsty thing. Why not invest the money into making their vehicles more fuel efficient instead of encouraging people to burn it 'cos it ain't gonna git any more expensive. Link. [/ QUOTE ] I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe the're in the debt spiral that some individuals find themselves in? They'll sell more vehicles, so that income will keep the wolves from the door for the time being. The fact they'll have to pay out a fortune in rebates to customers is another problem, for another day?
CarMad
[ QUOTE ] ...and how does this help GM make money - or are they in so much deep already it doesn't matter? [/ QUOTE ] They are in deeper than deep. They lost $2.3bn in the first half of this year. They are losing money hand over fist. If the banks didn't have so much to lose I'm sure they would call in the loans.
garcon magnifique
I have it on some authority they'll be filing Chapter 11 by the end of the year/early next. Which I suppose will be followed by some "re-structuring".
