Had a great day at Santa Pod on Saturday for the Mopar Nationals.

Buzz of the day though was watching the "Fire Force" Jet Car and the "She Devil" Methanol Car. The jet car being marginally quicker than the methanol supercharged V8.

I got a few pics of it from where I was stood, but this vid gives an idea of the noise and speed this thing made. Oh......and the guys who run the car were disappointed with only hitting 271 mph, in 6.1 seconds....YEAH OK!!

Here's some pics from Saturday.

Jet Car sets world record at Santa Pod Raceway! - 27/3/05

Picture an oversized multi-coloured cigarette lighter fitted with pram wheels and a jet engine. Imagine this can reach 336mph and can cover a ¼ mile in less than 6 seconds from a standing start! This is the Santa Pod Raceway Jet Car!

Santa Pod's resident Jet Car driver, Martin Hill, put in a stunning pass in the "Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car", on the throttle all the way down the track and clocking a 5.793 second run at 336.10mph which is the fastest quarter mile terminal speed by a Jet-powered drag racer ON THE PLANET! The previous fastest was 330.90 by US Jet Dragster pilot Bill Mattio.

Martin had already recorded 288 mph on a three quarter pass the previous day but this time he was on the throttle all the way and as the record breaking speed flashed up onto the timing display boards, a crowd of over 15,000 jubilant fans erupted with deafening cheers and rapturous applause!
