charlie61
Thinking of putting a performance improving exhaust system on my X reg A6 avant 1,8T Quattro as the factory one is coming to the end of it's life I love the car just wish the performance matched the fuel consumption, 22mpg round town anybody got any recommendations, I may get it chipped as well so if anyoes had it done I wouldn't mind some information
Edd_W
It is probably a bit of a waste of time because really the 1.8t is not exactly the performance version of the C5 A6. It is best just keep it standard. If you chip an older 1.8 engien you are asking for trouble. The engine is capable of a bit over 200bhp in standard form but that is not wise if you value reliability and the economy is not going to improve. Interestingly, I get around 25mpg with my normal day to day drive to work etc..some around town in my 2.7t avant.

[/ QUOTE ] Bet that's not a quattro though, it's really sure footed in the wet, just goes where you point it regardless of the road conditions but boy does it like petrol, I had to go to london in it last year, kept to 60 mph all the way there and 60 back towing a motorbike trailer with a bike on it, got 36mpg then, it's just town driving that's a killer. I wouldn't care if it was faster I could put up with 22mpg then. the 1.8T engine makes 225bhp in the TT, how would chipping it make it more unreliable I know it puts more stress on the engine but you don't see X reg TTs broken down everywhere
Edd_W
All 2.7's are quattro's. I guess the TT being lighter will make a difference but It could possibly be OK. I think you could easily find a 1.8 225 from a TT or an S3 and drop iot into yours with the engine ECU as well. There are loads around because people tend to stuff them fairly regularly it seems. It would make it pretty decent to drive because my 2.7 is only rated at 230 bhp and it would have a lot less weight and mechanical loss to deal with. It would be fun in the wet.
