[Audi A3/S3] Is changing the oil pump a worthwhile precaution?

As per the title of the post really on higher mileage 1.8Ts (mine is an S3). There is a thread over on AS.net about this at the moment but I'm just wondering if anyone here has any opinions whether this is worth doing?

There are a few failures mentioned in the thread concerned on higher milers and symptoms include (but not in all cases) a loud tappety sound from charcoal filter area / power steering pump (other than the usual charcoal filter sound).

So anyone?

i have read about oil pump problems on 1.8t engines in audi driver magazine can cause problems if it gets clogged up can cause damage to the turbo if undetected i believe
