Finding as the kids grow that the A4 is becoming less practical and could do with somethign smaller.

So been looking around and quite fancied an Audi A6 3l V6 Tdi Avant. How come they are so expensive to buy compared to almost any other manufacturer?

530d estate - BMW Quote me £75 a month less than Audi

E320 Estate - MErc quote me £80 a month cheaper

All same deals 10% down and 4 yr finance agreement.

So I thought lets look around.

RR Sport Supercharged - 45k used car - £100 a month cheaper than A6

Porsche Cayenne S - £90 a month cheaper

So then you start digging - all these are prestige brands - but the Audi has a residual value of at least 10% upto 20% worse than any of its competitors - no wonders its expensive... £39k new - 9k in 4yrs time....

SK,

V70 is the solution....

20T is 180 BHP which is enough if you have another toy (like we have in the WRX)

2.4 has more which is better

T5 Has more which is even better

T5R was 300BHP which is not too bad at all.... But it's not an RS6.....

The V70 is a top place to travel, nice leather, nice sounds, nice kit. A nice place to spend getting from A to be. Will not set you alight, but a top place to be.

Mate has just done 1000 miles, sailed for the week, drived back, and said "not a bad 14 hour drive (2 driving)"; " we rigged the boat"; "went sailing"; "great week"; "top car"; "would buy one". Then frove home again...

Volvo's are not the "tanks" you might think they are.

That's the probelm; Audi is becoming a popular brand, so lots of sales (especially fleet), so residuals take an early bath, which affects lease hire payments. If you consider that under a lease hire plan, the lessor assumes risk in the residual, you can see why they're playing it safe.

You could talk to a friendly dealer and pick up an ex-demo that hasn't been abused too much (pre-agree 3 months, 6000 miles and full 3-year warranty), and finance it independantly of the Audi dealer, rates are slightly higher than a couple of years ago because the 'cost of money' has gone up, but you should find a better lease deal if you're prepared to take some of the risk in the residual.

Oh, and the 3.0TDI is a cracking engine, BTW.
