Garmin Streetpilot i3

Recommended Posts

hello,

i recently got a garmin streetpilot i3 and i love the simplicity in which is can be used however there are a few little things i was wondering.

i have borrowed a friends tom tom before (i forget what model) and it was brilliant it told you to stay to the right or what lane to be in giving ure next move in the bottom RHS of the screen, the garmin kind of does this but a little less effectivly, i have tested it on routes that i know and it gets stay to the right and stay to the left confused, this could be a problem if it tells me in a similar situation when i dont know the way...

i was wondering if it was the maps that need up dateing as it doesnt recognise some of the turnings, but its choice of route has been very strange at times, (the area im in at the moment is around west yorkshire, leeds bradford halifax areas)

just wondered if any one else had a similar problem - and if there was a simple solution?

cheers Rob

I have exactly the same unit.

You're right that on occasion it'll take you on a somewhat obscure route, but it's taken me right across Edinburgh, all the way to the West Coast, down deep into the Borders, up to Forfar, and god knows where else - all very effectively.

You mention Halifax too - well it took me down from Edinburgh to a country house hotel deep in Calderdale without a single problem, although it did seem to choose a somewhat different route back which I ignored for a few miles and followed the same route I came on.

It's not perfect, but for simplicity I think it's the best there is and it's 97% fit for purpose in my opinion.

The display is staggeringly clear for it's size and whilst I know what you mean by right lane/left lane it's not let me down too much in that respect.

For the price - now £100 - I just don't think there is anything to get near it. It's far superior to many more expensive units too. The TomTom units are good but I simply didn't need to spend that much money for the task at hand - so the StreetPilot gets my vote anyday.

Thank you MrMe

- yep all in for the bargain price of £99 from comet! for the price and simplicity it cannot be beaten, truely plug and play.

ill give it a few more journeys and see how it goes i think, i suppose its abit bad as im comparing this unit with the tom tom 700 which is 2.5 times the price!

cheers Rob

Sorry to crash the thread, but I'm looking to buy my wife one of these (had one myself for 6 months and cannot fault it, excellent value and works exceptionally well) does anyone know where they are doing them for £99 ?. Cheapest I can currently find is £129.

Cheers
