prel200
what are the ultimate differences between the types of stage 1 remaps that AMD and REVO supply, particularly with regards to power devliery? I am looking for a a good combination of instant power with smooth delivery.
Paul
I cant speak for the 1.8T A4 maps, but i have had both on the more powerful 225bhp 1.8T S3's. End results are going to be similar if not identicle. The way its dilevered does differ. In short, the revo was a more fiesty agressive map, very boosty early on and tailing off, where as the Amd is smoother and more linear, from when the boost comes on tap. AmD is very much like a more powerful Audi map. Ive covered more than double the mileage in the AmD prepped car, over three years + and still running it. I feel its more suited to my driving style and daily commutes across A/B roads etc. etc. Out of the two, on my S3's, the AmD map is the smoother delivery. RedRobin
Doesn't this question as to which is 'best' depend on A-The engine/car, and B-When the re-map was produced by the tuner?? In other words, whereas AmD may have been considered the better tuner a year ago, Revo might be considered better now - Again depending on car etc. Rightly or wrongly, and I hasten to add that I am not qualified to judge, AmD's reputation has taken a lot of hits recently. Revo's reputation is currently on an 'up'. The question has to be: Which is better NOW?
danksy
Best way to decide is to drive a car with the respective code installed Both AMD and Revo code stays resident in the ECU, but Revo has the benefit of being switchable between stock and performance. Unless the PPC is used
Mook
You need to drive a car with each remap - every tuner's remap delivers power in a different way. Try to get hold of a dyno plot - this will tell you how much torque kicks in and at what RPM. If you see a massive jump at around 2K rpm, you're probably going to get a good kick when you floor it. If you see a more steady rise, tailing off up to peak power, you will get a smoother delivery.
Soundwave
I agree, you really should try to get to a meet and drive both types of remap. If that is out of the question or too much hassle, then Revo offer a trial remap, where the remap is limited to about five hours IIRC (can someone confirm the time?). This would at least give you the chance to evaluate the Revo map and if you liked it, just keep that one. If it seems too aggresive then you might want to consider the AMD remap. From what you have said about smooth delivery, it sounds like AMD would be the way to go, although like RR says, their reputation has been less than stellar lately. You pays your money, you takes your chances. Even in a perfect world, unforseen things can potentially go wrong, whatever the companies' reputations.
