Evobaz
My 2000 Passat Tdi has started to feel like it has lost power lately. It feels as if the turbo isn't working. I recently struggled to get 80 mph on the motorway! I bought a brand new MAF on ebay and fitted it and yet the car still feels the same? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks for your help. philperkins
Had a similar problem a while ago. Turned out to be a split turbo hose. The car (Passat TDI) used to lose power and it felt like the turbo wasn't working properly - 10 pence hose replaced and its as good as new!! Rustynuts
After a drive, feel the wheels and see if they're hot. The brakes might be binding.
Evobaz
After fitting a new MAF sensor and the Passat still being slow I contacted VW and a VW specialist. The sepeciallist asked where I'd got the new MAF then suggested that the new one may be faulty. I have returned it to the guy who sold me it on ebay for "testing". I cleaned the original MAF as per the instructions that I bought on ebay and refitted it and now the car runs slightly better. When I first start the car there seems to be very little power below 3000 rpm. Then after it hits 3000 rpm it picks up really well. It'll then perform normally at any revs. It seems that hitting 3000rpm does something to allow the car to run better. If I keep it below 3000 rpm then the power is totally crap. I've now got it booked into VW to have the ECU read for fault codes
rothwell
Could be an air mass meter. They are about £80 for the part and should take a mechnic about 30 mins to fit and road test.
Rustynuts
Air Mass Meter = Mass Air Flow sensor (or MAF). They're the same thing with a different name.
Evobaz
well folks, Finally had the car into VW today. Below is a list of what they done. "Checked fault memory, 3 faults found, Quantity Adjuster, Upper stop Limit Airmass (no sugnal) and Boost Pressure - open circuit. Checked feed to airmass, found satisfactory. Checked signal on multi block values, found 550 all the time. Replaced air mass meter, reading OK. Checked feed to boost solonoid and found wire damaged, repaired and road tested. Found good, boost pressure satisfactory" "Quantity adjuster fault, cleared after road test, may require further attention, will show by glowplug light coming on" The car now drives superb, it feels even better than when I bought it. the cost was ?206 (?110 labour, ?65.50 for the air mass meter, ?30.71 VAT) Looks like the air mass meter I bought on ebay was faulty. Rustynuts
So, dodgy maf, and damaged wire to the solenoid. Send the faulty one back to the car boot sale (Ebay)

Rustynuts
Not sure on a Passat, but following the vacuum hose from the turbo actuator will take you straight to it.
