993 or 996

I've had a few shots in the 993, love the shape but feel that the 996 is just a better alround car. I was tempted by a 3.4 but got scared off by the stories. I've just bought a 4 year old 996 C4S. Silver with a black interior, 21k on the clock. Best bit is the sports exhaust. A few guys at work have various models of Porsche but none have the sports exhaust. We all stood around the car like schoolboys and listened to it rumble. Bit sad I know. It has the Bose upgrade and I would hate to have been the guy who ordered this new and spent the extra on the Bose system, there's just nothing special about it.

To sum up, spend the extra cash (your a long time dead) and go for the 996 C4S it's a fantastic machine.

Have fun.

Can't argue with that. I had always fancied the most unpopular 911 in the most unpopular colour - a 964 Targa in white with black trim. I seen one in Spain 15 years ago and the picture always stayed with me. The problem was I couldn't find one nice enough. 993's are the prettiest but I don't fit in them. I was interested in a 996 3.4 but the guy messed me around, and that was a dealer. Despondently I started looking at more expensive machinery in auto trader. I spotted an '02 C4S at Kenny Dunn's in Edinburgh, I had no intensions of buying it, I just wanted to look. The following day I dragged my wife over for a look. To my utter surprise, she said 'Buy it'. Five minutes later I found out that it had been sold earlier the previous day. It was stunning. Artic silver and Metropole blue, I think the best combination. Kenny (the dealer) must have realised that I was a serious customer and told me that he was currently trying to buy a similar car and that he may have it in a couple of weeks. Two weeks later Kenny had the car and I bought it. Only downside was it's black leather as opposed to my preferred blue. If you can afford it I would recommend the C4S but it's a lot of money. There are quicker cars for less money out there but I always wanted a 911. When I drive my C4S alongside my pals TVR even he says there is no comparison. The Porsche is just better in every aspect except straight line performance. He is now looking for one. The cost is another issue, I was driving a new Suzuki Swift (bit of a change, eh!) and infact the most expensive car I had bought was about 15K. I could have nearly halved my mortgage but every time I look at the car I can't help but smile, nevermind drive it.

Whatever you buy I'm sure you'll love it.

One last thing, don't lift off on a corner, your arse will twitter for the next ten minutes.

Oi. Some of us like Metropole Blue. Avoids that feeling of dropping yourself into a black hole when you get in.

Metropole, Artic, Al/Stainless/Chrome pack .... ahhhh!

Not too dark - you can still make out enough to navigate by.

Oh, and the carpets are a matching shade of blue, and the roof lining doesn't get seen much. Especially when its open.

(Did I mention the roof fabric was metropole, too?)
