PsYcHe
Guys, Just got a set of these from fleabay (I can't reverse for toffee). Tested them out today and they work, which is handy. Had a wee shufty over the recipient (my D2) and noticed that there's a honling great aluminium(?) bar at the back of the bumper. Looks like I'll need to remove the bugger to get the sensor wires fitted, but does anyone know if this will interfere with the sensors? And is it easy enough to get the bumper off (and back on again)?
Ska
Is your car the single piece or 2 piece bumper set up? I've found that taking bumpers off an A8 is fai;ry easy, just might want to get some help because of the shear size of it BTW take some photos cause I would be ineterested to see how and where you are mounting all the components including sensors and display This is the single piece:
Paintguy
I've just fitted a front and rear set that I acquired on eBay from ultrasonix sensors. I just used the supplied hole saw to drill straight through the plastic bumper, and metal reinforcer behind. I didn't need to remove the bumper, just the small undertray that fits behind/below it (a few screws and a drive rivet), and had plenty of room to get to the wires, and feed them through to the boot. Ska
Do you mean on the black portion of the bumper? If so have you kept the sensors flush to the bumper profile or have you been able to keep the horizontal? if you know what I mean and where have you stuvk the display? Is it working OK? Loads of Q's sorry
Paintguy
No, there's a small undertray that 'tidys up' the area underneath the bumper. It's not shown on that picture above, but it fits horizontally and bridges the gap between the very bottom edge of the bumper (black part) and the spare wheel well. You can see the sensors in this picture (click for full size): Everything works fine. The only minor problem being the front sensor wires. They were only just long enough to reach into the boot, and just a few extra inches would have made mounting the control box easier. As for the display, it works, but I've not mounted it anywhere yet, it's just thrown in the cubby hole near the ignition switch. I'd have preferred an audio-only one, but they weren't available in 6 sensor flavour, so I've had to put up with it. It can't be removed, as it contains the speaker for the audible warning, but I hate having things stuck on my dash, as it makes a car look cheap and nasty, so I'm going to permanently hide it away somewhere. I mean - I don't need a tacky flashing display to show me what part of the car is near an object, that's what my eyes are for! Sensors are really accurate though. The display showed the car to be 1.28m from a wall, and it was only a few millimeters out with a tape measure.
