Oil Overfill

Hi I recently had an oil change in my Bora 1.9tdi pd130 and have noticed that the garage that changed the oil have over filled it by about 1/4 of a litre.

Will this damage my CAT or engine. Or am I worring for nothing, cause its just a small amount. Or should I drain the additional amount out?

Thanks for any advice

Pete

It could damage your cats if you start burning off excess.

How do you know they've overfilled it?.. make sure you take your oil dip stick reading when the car is on a level surface and the engine is warm but not hot. Leave it about 20 minutes after turning off. Wipe stick and then re-insert and see what the level is.

If it's a big overfill then i would drain some off.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the speedy reply, I would say the oil level is about a centermeter about the max mark. I will check again later with the enigine warm and on a flat surface.

The thing that made me check is that I bought the oil myself and asked a garge to use it, It was a 5 litre tub, it came back with about 250mls, and I read somewhere that the bora holds about 4.5 litres.

It looks as if I`ll be draining some oil tonight after work frown.gif

Oil level is critical on TDi's.

Can someone explain how it been slightly over full makes it burn oil?

I have bought Petrol engines that have been over filled, they burn oil but only after the valve stem seals have been damaged. Once the seals are replaced they stopped burning oil!! I know over filling damages the CAT, but why? From burning the oil?

May as well ask the question seem as i dont know the answer laugh.gif169144-ok.gif
