Hudster
this is a basic answer - but some cards have tiny switches on the cover for write protect (just like the old floppy disks), have you checked?
John_Doe
Hi Hudster...yes it's in the right position...however I have just tried to open the SD drive and it telling me that "F:\is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error!!! Its a brand new just out of the packet card.....
petsy
you wouldn't by chance be using a dell laptop? some older chipsets are only able to deal with sd cards up to 1GB...
Hudster
unplug all the USB and firewire things you have plugged in and reboot and try again - even though it's an internal reader it's probably using an internal USB port

Hudster
a lot of cards will refuse to work until they have first been formatted by Winblows... and I/O error could be to do with the USB/firewire conflicts I doubt an external reader would make any different apart from transfer speed Try it again with everything else unplugged to reduce the chance of a conflict and see what happens. Also another daft question are there any carpet hairs on the contacts or finger marks? Might be work making sure they are clean on the reader and the card
TDiAvant
JD, Go into Event Viewer (Start --> Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Event Viewer), Select the "system" log. you should see a bunch or red errors. Double click on one and post the error message here

TDiAvant
I was looking for errors like below. If you’re not get any disk errors, then could have issues with the card reader.
John_Doe
Thanks for that........I may get a standalone card reader just to cover all angles. Here's a funny thing. I have just inserted the sd card in my PC and the format removable disc dialogue window has opened. The capacity is showing as 3.78GB, FAT32 (non negotiable), Allocation unit size - default (non negotiable too)and the only format option not being greyed out is "quick format"....pressed start, countdown bar went across as if it was formatting!!! Then window opened to say windows was unable to complete the format!! Feck off!!!

petsy
hmm, you shouldn't really have to format a new sd card! I suggest you try the card on another card reader to see if the card is ok. seeing that the card's capacity is incorrectly reported leads me to believe that your card reader can't handle the SD's 2GB capacity.
