I cant believe this, the S3 was running all smooth and fine for TWO days after changing the MAF and the jerks have come back. FIREdevil.gif

Its weird as they're not as aggresive now. It's happening when i lift off the throttle mostly. I change gear bulid up speed and as i ease of the throttle it'll jerk!!.

I thought the MAF was the problem but its something else. confused.gif

Could it be something to do with the accelerator, is there a sensor that could malfunction down there worth taking a look at?

Any other possibilities now that the MAF is out of the question confused.gifconfused.gif

Coil packs does it sound like mis firing and have you got any fault codes from it?

My 8 was doing this a while ago and turned out to be a dud ignition lead; does it jerk when going up hill on slight pedal pressure as well?

I think I may have seen you out and about in my nick of the woods wink.gif

Do you have acess to vag com,if so try doing a throttle body reset,in any case i would disconnect the battery for about 1hr so the ecu can start afresh and relearn the engine values,if your previous maf was faulty then the engine adapts to it.

Throttle body reset

If you want to reset learnt values then save adaption channel 00 in the engine, save a hour with the battery disconnected. 169144-ok.gif

Can you comfirm some things,

You accelarate away, as you lift the throttle slightly the car jurks, Like you took the throttle off and on quickly? Just the 1 or does it carry on doing it?

Sorry for the late response guys, been off work smirk.gif

Anyway, Yes it does exactly what you've wrote. However i've noticed that its doing it less frequently now. I haven't felt it jerk for the last coupem of days now. Could this be the ECU learning new air flow settings?

Correct, it used to jerk a few times but since i changed the MAF it jerked once when it happened and for the last couple of days it hasn' jerked at all confused.gif

Does it get progressively worse as the car warms up? Knackered coil pack/leads tend to get worse in extreme conditions i.e. very wet or hot weather; we've had niether in west London over the last couple of days 169144-ok.gif

I would have thought the ECU learned what has to learn over the space of a few mins rather than days confused.gif

[/ QUOTE ]

It actually gets better when its warm. Today it jerked a few times when it's cold but its not bad when the engine is warm. As i started moving uphill it started jerking again confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif

Hmm... My car used to do the uphill bit but only on light pedal depression; if you were going up hill and were simply cruising along it would shudder and jerk but if then put the pedal to the metal so to speak then it would accelerate smoothly. Get a visual of your coil pack ends and lead sections and look for any deterioration and arcing blast patterns on the ends. Here's the link to my symptoms TSN A8 judder it was diagnosed from being every thing but the Ignition lead.

Where are you based in west London? perhaps a quick look might help I saw a car that looked the same as yours in hammersmith last week was it yours? BTW does it only jerk in gear i.e. revs freely in neutral? 169144-ok.gif

Yes i was in Hammersmith last week, so you could have seen me.

Yes the judder only occurs whilst in gear and revs freely in neutral confused.gif

I had the coil packs chnaged a while back when they packed up so it would be strange if they were the issue frown.gif

You said it jurking up hill today, is this without letting of the throttle? Just it makes a major difference if you didn't let of the throttle.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes i only eased off the throttle until the car started to jerk going uphill, then i depressed the throttle it jerked a bit more then was smooth. FIREdevil.gif

This mornig it jerked when the engine was cold but then was as good as new when warm confused.gif This is driving me mad What a fekin riddle crazy.gif

@ Tobes, I was aware of that but was thinking about the fact that either the coil pack itself has gone bad or the stalk/tubing bit on the end has perished causing arcing to that end the sparkplugs could be duds, or the wiring to the coil pack has been damaged, could that not be a likely cause? confused.gif

@ Harj; you weren’t parked on the ground floor of certain multi story Car park were you if so I was parked 20ft away from you grin.gif

The symptoms of the jerking under load are so reminiscent of what I experienced
