peterb
From model year 2003, which started selling around June 2002, the aircon became a cost option on all models. Didn't the sport model start with the 2003 MY? Up until then, the aircon was standard on SE.
wampa
Thanks for your response. Found a good one but looks like it doesn't have aircon fitted. Do you know if you can have it done as a retro fit option or will this cost megabucks!!!
peterb
I suspect that aircon retrofit would not be economical.
shao_khan
I thought it was the other way around - Cost option upto 2003MY and then standard on Sport, cost option on SE? As Peter B says though be fairly expensive to do - last retrofit I had done was iro £1k
s4_sat
I thought that they all had aircon. Jus the climate control was manual, the auto one was optional.
bpsmith
Manual Climate Control? Is that not just called Air Conditioning then?
A2ULP
Initially the A2's cames a 'base' and 'SE' models. The SE was some £2,500 more expensive and had climate control, leather wheel and gearknob, 6-spoke 16" alloys, illumination pack, fog lights and the false boot floor. Climate was an option on base models for £1800 ( ). In 2002, Audi introduced the A2 Sport. At the same time, climate was removed from the specification of the SE, but the SE was now only £500 more than the base. The Sport was another £1000 on top of the SE and DIDN'T have climate as standard. In addition to the spec of the base model, the Sport had 3-spoke leather wheel and gearknob, 17" 'TT' alloys, illumination pack, quattro GMBh Suspension, DIS, Sports seats and different interior trim. Base, SE and Sport models had climate as an £800 option. As the cars were generally bought private or as demo's and the SE had originally had climate control, about 90% (if not more) of SE's and Sport's had climate and I think it was a special order not to have it. In 2003, SE and Sport models also received the Concert II C.d. player instead of the Chorus cassette player. In late 2004 Audi did a special deal for all A2's that for £500 you would get metallic and climate fitted. Mine is one of these cars You will see A2 SE's and Sport's without climate, but it's rare. Base models often come without, but later models tend to have it. In 2005, the range was replaced by 'Special Edition' models which are essentially 'base' models with climate control and the Concert II C.d. player fitted. The A2 was never available with manual (single-button) air conditioning. I think a retro-fit would be possible but easily cost £1,000. A2 SE's and Sport without A/C are quite difficult to shift too, so only buy if the price is right. I hope it's OK with the mods to advise this, but the A2 owners club is really thriving at the moment so feel free to pop into www.a2oc.net for more A2 advice and assistance in finding the right car if this Sport isn't the one... A2ULP
Dunno what you mean about more room - the boot is smaller than the A2 and the rear space is the same, all-be-it wider in the Sportback. Had one as a courtesy car the other week (2.0T FSI S-Line S-Tronic) and it was really nice, much more so than the A4, but there 'aint no additional space in them
s4_sat
Jus the boot with the seats up is better for stuff like boxes which i carry alot. I have to put mine on the back seats with a towel under them to stop them damaging the leather. I seem to fill it up every few days due to the amount i drive too. Diesel won't need to be filled up as often and won't need to worry about damaging the leather cos it won't have it
