Try checking your brake light bulbs - if both blow this can cause the ESP light to come on (and IIRC it only checks the brake light bulbs when you press the pedal, so it would fit with your description).

I will have a look later on, but in the past when i have had stop/tail lights go the DIS has given me a big fat warning! so why wouldn't it this time?

I think there is a sensor down there somewhere that can trigger the ESP light to come on. Mine came on once and stayed on after I'd turned sharply over a speed bump. It went off when I turned the engine off and Audi could not find any faults when i had it checked. Could be the same sort of thing? confused.gif Or else brake lights both blowing has been identified in the past too! smashfreakB.gif

I have checked and all brake lights are working correctly! I guess i could have bumpped something but this light comes on as soon as i press the brake, even when stationary. I guess I will have to take it in and see whats up! Thanks for the replies... keep em coming if anyone else has some ideas?

Ok thanks for that, it doesn't sound too expensive (hopefully)

These things always seem to some in 3's... i had that ESP light, a slow punchure and then this morning the glow plug warning light normally only ever seen on start up decided to start flashing at me but thankfully that went away again after a few miles!! smashfreakB.gif

  • 3 weeks later...

I got the same error. But only in heavy rain. The ABS light come on and the glow plug light starts flashing. If I then slow down the car goes into some sort of safety mode and wont go over 20mph. Turn the car off and restart and the fault has gone. But can come back a few moments later.

Audi, changed the break switch (seems like they do that for any abs warning problem.) I am now waiting for heavy rain to see if it comes back - which is not much fun on a wet motorway. I am not convinced that it's the switch as it only happens in heavy rain. Time will tell.

The car is an 05 3.0 tdi. I must say, the warranty service from Audi has been very good.

I will keep you posted.

Something similar happened to me, apparently water had splashed a multiplug in the engine bay in heavy rain (near the ECU I seem to remember) which caused the plug to corrode. I had two accelerator position senders before they realised it was something else that was causing the position sender to fry... could be worth suggesting that to your dealer?
