jediknight83
[ QUOTE ] THey all look fantastic the tt suits white alot. Just a quick question, why do you know use egp now? [/ QUOTE ] why do i know use EGP now?? confussing question.. basically i used to use it before i started trying lots of other products and found others easier to use and gave a warmer glow. For these cars where the breif was protection protection protection i decided to use it again along with my usual wax as it does add to the durability and also gives a very sharp reflection. I'll prob continue to use it now and again as required.
Johna1
Sorry should of just said why do you use egp now. Just i havnt seen it mentioned in your previous write ups. Im a big fan of it but i feel its durability could be better. I was thinking of using this collinite stuff i hear mention for added protections and shine. I know theres two differant types which on is the best? Thanks
P_G
Nathan, How do you find the Collinite 915 now that you've used it a few times? Just from using it on mine and the wifes cars it appears to give a better finish than 976 but having read your thread you've used it on a lot more cars than I have. _Tone_
Nathan That Collinite 915 certainly helped remove the water - it absolutely pissed down today (still is!) and the rain just fell off. Car is still gleaming! I am so pleased with it - we will meet again late summer for a re-application. Cheers T

jediknight83
Arrived at 8:30 this morning to find a relatively clean Boxter. In the early morning sun you could see the swirls and lack of any depth though. Wheels cleaned with AG wheel cleaner and Tar & Adhesive remover. Car pre sprayed with AG PM3 TFR and pressure rinsed. Then shampooed with AG shampoo and conditioner. Then clayed with sonus green mild clay and taped up and moved into the garage. Then a few tests with the rotary using a megs polishing pad. The car had received paint down both side and the paint was showing approx 300um and 120um on the boot and bonet. The 106FF did well but i stepped up to ip3.01 and this removed 99% of the marks after 8 passes at 1700rpm (slowing down to finish of course) Borrowed a friends tripod so took som action shots as i worked around the car. Didnt get round to taking many detailed shots but this was the boot which was one of the worst areas. before after Then i took it back outside to wash again to remove all the polish dust and residue... and another action shot with my new favorite toy... at AB foam lance Then i used HD cleanse on every surface which left a lovely glossy finish. Took a long time though as it was quite sticky today. The out with the wax which was concours. Applied by hand and allowed to stand for 60 seconds before removing. Some action shots.. (notice the LONG fingers.. it was a slowish shutter and my hands were moving fast so they looked stretched.. there not really THAT long ) Anyway did all the finishing dressings, glass cleaned with HDC and then also waxed. Interior cleaned and leather fed with gliptone liquid leather. Wiped down the car about 90 mins later with optimum car wax (instead of field glaze) and these are the finished pics... 11hrs later i got home. Thanks for looking. Ska
Cracking work as ever But ask ask a silly question; I know you should mask the plastic trim etc but why do people mask off panels from each other prior to machine polishing. Just like why you have masked the fuel filler cap? Dont you want to polish that as well

Just like why you have masked the fuel filler cap? Dont you want to polish that as well [/ QUOTE ] its because on the edge of the panel the paint is thinner and i dont want to burn through. Ive seen lots of porsches with the paint burned through around the filler cap from bodged machine polishing and i dont want to make that mistake... so half inch of un-machined paint is worth the sacrifice. Also i spend more time hand polishing that area afterwards so you cant notice atall and definately doesnt detract from the overall finish.

Phil330
Great pics, and nice motor! Cant see why anyone who has GT would have such an old Boxster?? Just out of interest, did you go on any courses to learn about valeting or was it all learn as you go?
jediknight83
the boxter is his wifes. Low mileage, good condition. He has numerous other amazing cars (all of which you will be seeing soon in this thread). Tomorrow is the big one though getting quite excited about it. I already had a good knowledge of how paint was made up and machine polishing although this has only improved over the past 12 months with practice on various test panels and ofcourse on the numerous jobs i have done. Not saying that the early cars got a bad machine polish...but they probably took 50% longer and only got to 90% of the looks i feel i am getting now. I also went on the autoglym valeting course (which now i look back taught me very little... but was handy at the time) Mainly a case of learning on mine and familys cars and getting good advice from a couple of other pro detailers via msn and online and trialing their tips. id say probably 20-30% is skill the rest is being damn anal and having a degree of OCD and not missing a single little detail. Phil330
Ah cool, well i have been told i suffer OCD, though only insofar as i simply cannot tolerate a dirty or badly washed car!! I find it quite rewarding too, espeically when i do a really bad condition car, normally my brothers!! Would it be too rude to ask for some tips? i.e. the best products to use? I have a PC, and need to do our Jag XK for the first time. It has just come back from the bodyshop after a deer ran into the side of it, so i told them not to clean the car but now it needs a good wash. Its always had slight surface swirls where i think it was dusted down in the showroom, so I am lookin forward to do it but want to get the right mix of products!! jediknight83
I didnt bother taking many photos today...... only kidding... So as most will know ive had this coming up for a few weeks now. Woke up just before my alarm went off this morning as i was quite excited about it. Not sure if one of these has been posted on DW before?? Truely amazing car. First thing that hit me was the size of the thing. Its huge. Longer and wider than i was expecting. Then there are the wheels. 20" with 330 width tyres at the rear and 19" with 295 (if i remember correctly) up front and coming in at £8k a piece. Anyway once i had finished drooling it was on with the job. The owner back it out (what a noise!) and i set about with washing. Pre sprayed with shampoo and rinsed and then shampooed with a washmit and 2 buckets. It was at this point that the owner told me he had previously had Paul Dalton detail his car and that he had be extremely happy with the work i had done on his boxter (apart from the fact he wasnt keen on the liquid leather smell)... Knowing how good Pauls work is i was quite chuffed with this comment but also knew i had alot to live up to with the CGT... Once dry it was back into the garage (i drove this time.. being very carefull with the £8k racing clutch). The paint actually felt quite rough so it was treated with sonus green clay and lots of last touch as lube to avoid any maring. This solved the roughness although the clay didnt show many signs of dirt. I had already checked the paint last week and knew there werent any defects so it was out with the premium pre wax paint cleanse. This was applied via finishing pad on the rotary at 600 rpm for the larger panels (yes it can be applied via machine with good effect. The smaller panels were treated by hand on an MF pad. Glass and all Carbon Fibre in and out was also treated by hand as were the wheels. Cleansing fluid was removed with a damp MF towel with last touch helping to remove any stubborn residue Then on with the premium wax which was 47% carnauba.. applied by hand to everything in and out. What little fabric there is on the interior was vacuumed and the inside glass cleaned. Wheeled back outside for the tyres to be dressed and for some photos. Wiped down just before i left with a spray wax. The owner popped back to collect the keys at 5pm and was extremely happy commenting especially on how good the carbon fibre looked once it was all waxed up. I can look forward to a passenger ride in the near future and also possibly a track day. Yet again an absolute pleasure to work in a well equiped garage. Now for the rest of the photos. Thanks for looking Nathan

wantmygti
Enough about your pants! That GT and every car you touch turn out amazingly. After getting a new golf GTi and seeing the dealer inflicted mess they call lifeshine up close, I reckon you must be getting a lot of cars into a condition that is better than when they were new.
