Yes you read it right and no its not April fools and it comes in as early as Jan 1st 2007.

The regulation, announced by the EU as long ago as 2002, means that all Euro 3 diesel commercial vehicles and minibuses registered between 1 October 2001 and 31 December 2004 and being used exclusively on UK roads with a GDW of 3,501-7,500kg must be retrofitted with a speed limiter.

From January 2008, the same rule will also apply to all commercial vehicles and minibuses registered after 1 January 2005, whether used on UK roads or internationally.

Carl D'Ammassa, director of asset management, said, "This change could, we believe, have quite an impact on the operations of many fleets.

“A large number of bigger white vans have a GDW of more than 3.5 tonnes and having them limited to 56mph could mean an increase in delivery times, especially for routes that take in dual carriageways or motorways.

Apparently they tried to get the speed to be the same as lorries at 62mph but had no joy. So not only do we have to have lorries clogging the roads up now it will be vans making it even worse....

Did any one else know that this was happening ... its certainly passed this News Stig by. blush.gif
