Retrofit of auto-dimming rear view mirror

The one in your link just needs a power feed as all the sensors are built in.

You can probably take a feed from the lights in the head rail. You'll need a nice black bracket to hide the wires though I guess. Maybe the OEM dimming mirror bracket would do the job - vagparts could probably supply that, unless it comes as one part with the dimming mirror itself?

I was going to buy a proper Audi one from Nelson a little while back. Audi put a harness in the headliner in certain model year cars ready so you could fit it afterwards. I had a look at mine and it was not there so didn't bother in the end (you can buy the harness from Kufatec though).

As this is an aftermarket one it will be slightly different. To remove your current OEM mirror, you just need to turn it 90 degrees and then it will pull out. According to his application list, you need a GM kit which he supplies for free. How good it is? Anybodies guess as they're are probably loads of manufacturers around.

EDIT: Just looked at the "GM Kit". It actually bonds the bracket to the glass so chances are you might not be able to get it off again - if it's rubbish, I wouldn't like to chance it myself.

See if you can make sense of this reply:

"OEM is attacheded on the botton on the windscreen. you can try to turn the mirror clockwise 90 degree( using tools if it's too Hard)and then pull it up. there are two mothods to fix our mirror. one is take off the botton on your windscreen and stick the kit come with the mirror on your windscreen, and put the mirror on the kit. 2nd is using a adapter between your current botton and our mirror.but looks not better than 1st method and we will charge the adapter for 5 pounds, (we just develop the adapter for AUDI/VW, and you can not find somewhere else).I fixed a GENK3 on my 2003 A3,and I believe it sould be as same as your A4.

So it looks like there is a specific adaptor they have developed, ahem, and it is a fiver. Hmm...

Basically a choice of ripping the Audi base off the screen and sticking a new one on (if this is even possible without wrecking the screen???) or buying a £5 adaptor which according to the seller looks rubbish.

I know I wouldn't be laying any cash out at this point in time!

If I was you, I'd have a look in your headliner for a harness. If you have got one, just look on eBay or go to a breakers year. The OEM mirror will look much better!
