Sam_S3
Hello guys, I have got to install an Nokia CK-7W into my MKV golf and link it to the stereo... How much of a nightmare job is this? I am reasonably good at these kind of things so I don't mind having a go, but I have heard that the Golf's ignintion signal is via CAN bus, and is tricky to tap into? Is this the case? Has anyone got any advice or tried something similar? Your help would be grately appreciated on this!!! Sam
craigyb
Don't go near the canbus, you cannot tap into that. Just find a switched live by the fuse box and a perm live. Locate the mute and Tel+/Tel- leads on the stereo and use them for muting and speaker connections.
PetrolDave
The CAN bus is NOT switched power, it's a complex high speed data bus. Messing with that will mess up all sorts of things on your car. As Craig says - stay well clear of it!
Sam_S3
Yeah, sorry, I didn't mean literally tap in to the stream! I had just heard that it wasn't straight forward finding a switched live... Also are the leads on the stereo in connector blocks or are there plug in extensions that I will need to purchase? I am just trying to be fully prepared before I pull the dash out! Thanks for your help!
mb
I installed this on my MkIV which also had canbus, the stereo is all pinned out so that part is easy but on mine the plugs into the carside were missing (I expect you only get these if you order the VW phone from the factory). I just used the VW repair wires as these have the pins crimped to them & snap straight into the connector. I picked up live, ignition & earth from the bus bar in the drivers footwell, the pervious installer had found some feeds from the CDC plug but this produced some erratic behaviour as you had to wait for the stereo to "boot up" before the phone connected ! Connecting to tel+/- produces much better results than using the Nokia speaker, if you open up the speaker you will find just a red & a black wire in it so don't be tempted to wire up the speaker when you get the kit !
