Golf TDI mk4 questions

Hi,

I have 2 TDI's. A SE and a 6 speed GT. A few questions for them both.

On the SE (01/X 108K) when the foot is too the floor and the revs are around 1800-2500 it can kick out a fair bit of black smoke. It only happens when the foot is too the floor in or close to this rev range. Would it be the injection causing it? Its been serviced recently.

On the GT (01/Y) I notice if I put my foot down sometimes it seems to lose a bit of power accelerating between 2500/2800 revs and then kicks in again. Is this normal? The car is noticably quicker than the SE when pulling away, and if I gradually accelerate it seems OK.

I was also looking at getting the GT chipped. Would anyone recommend this or is it a bad move (I've not done it before on any cars).

Cheers

There seems to be nothing wrong with the SE (I have a 2000/ SE and smoke is a bit of a standard thing You could get some millers diesel plus to clean our your whole system - I use it in every tank. As for the GT, it seems like your MAF sensor is buggered - remove it and if the car runs better, it's defo the MAF. New ones are £70-80 /(can't remember) but if you take your original back, vw will give you £20 back.

Do a search on 'Golf MkIV MAF' or something and see if you find ant help. If not, let me know and I'll have a search for you!

(MAF means Mass Air Flow sensor I think)

Oh, and chipping - no worried - everyone does it and there's no problems at all - it's like moving your car's bhp up to the next trim level and some - no worries at all.

I only have experience with chippeduk but it was an excellent 'chipping experience' and I couldn't recommend them enough! Jayson is the owner (really nice guy, prepared to go that extra bit and won't charge the earth!), he has 'branches' all over the country - his number is 07815 501867 (hope he doesn't mine me giving it out. Don't think he will, here's the website - http://www.chippeduk.com/
